After the interview, if you get a job offer, ask them two questions. First, "how many levels does this job description have in your company?"

Companies set different salaries for each level. The levels can be reflected in titles but aren't always so clear.

"Figuring out the specific level that you're at will indicate the level of seniority the company believes you have, and therefore the kind of salary they think you're eligible for.

The second question to ask is, "what is your compensation philosophy across the industry?" They could say something like "we pay 75th percentile," which means they pay better than 75% of companies in the industry.

After receiving the offer and having your questions answered, tell them, "I'm excited about this offer. Can you please give me a couple of days to think about it and I'll circle back with you." Then start doing some research.

Check sites like O'Net and Salary.com, as well as job listings which will offer you data about salaries and titles.

When you respond to the employer with your answer, you can tell them that you are excited about the offer and you want to join the company, if they can hit this number you will accept the offer today.

They might get back to you and say yes, they might get back to you and offer a little bit less and they might get back to you and say no altogether.
