Getting Started with Remote Work (Part 3)
Have you given careful thought about working from home? Yes, I know, everyone's doing it. The pandemic forced a huge part of the workforce to work from home but have you ever considered doing it or what it might take?
Here are a few helpful hints to help you get started:
You will need a dedicated workspace or area. It can mean simply setting up a work desk or dedicating an extra room as an office.
It would also be helpful to set up scheduled work hours. This can help you manage your time and your day. You can easily fall into the habit of working anytime and all the time. I recommend using a schedule and timers to keep you on track (and also to help you remember to take breaks---it's easy to get caught up in bad habits when working from home).

Remote Work: Pros and Cons-Part 2

In this post, let's delve in to the pros and cons of Remote Work:
Pros:
- The ability to literally work from anywhere (for many but not all jobs)
- Ability to create a better work/life balance.
- No more commute.
- Savings on lunch, gas, etc.....
- Independence
Cons
- Isolation (many people miss working with other people)
- The tendency to overwork (not having the disciplined 9-5 work hours)
- Can be difficult to stay motivated.
- There may be more distractions, working from home.
I think the above points can give you an idea of everything you should consider in doing remote work. There are many things to consider such as your personal temperament as well as your own personal strengths and weaknesses.

There are also plenty of resources on the internet to help you on your journey. There are sites dedicated to remote work. Some are free and others are offered on a subscription basis (the nice things about these sites are that you can usually start on them with a free trial) Here are a few to get you started:

Remoteok.com (FREE--find a remote job anywhere; notable companies like Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Apple have posted there)
Remoteleaf.com (Free Trial)
Another great resource is word of mouth. If you have friends or family working remotely, ask about jobs at their companies. Oftentimes, we overlook this great resource. Many employers have employed hybrid models (half-remote and half in the office). There is still quite a bit of flexibility in the workforce, especially because of the triple threats of COVID, the flu and RSV.

Help switching to a new field/job listings?
Hi there, I'm reaching out to get advice on switching to a new career path. I was in a car accident at the beginning of the pandemic, and three surgeries later it's very clear I will not be returning to my previous industry. I was a custom luxury jeweler (business owner etc) - and before that I did event coordination and restaurant/hospitality work. As a passion project I own an online vintage/handsewn clothing store but even that is physically a little hard on me. I'm currently wanting to find something remote, as I need to return to some type of normalcy and all of my previous positions have been working with customers on custom orders/customer service work. I've applied for a good amount of positions (all ranging from travel agent work/other customer satisfaction remote work) but have not gotten any luck with interviews. Wanting some advice if anyone has anything or knows of a good entry level position I might have better luck with. I'm incredibly diligent but would like advice or if anyone is hiring.

Post retirement work - what is next?
First, I have no desire to “age-proof” my resume - I am a healthy & active almost 64 YO with pandemic-inspired natural white hair AND 40 years of experience, climbing that ladder to an exec-level position with a solid salary.
After the small company I helped launch and grow was recently acquired by private equity, I assisted with the transition and “retired.” I have a few months’ consulting agreement. My goals are more time with family, freedom, less pressure. And much less work. I want to work PT, and the job market is so good that I am not likely taking a job from someone who needs it more.
I have no clue where to go from being VP of a small company where I wore 10 “hats” - HR & Benefits, accounting, contract review & negotiation (inactive attorney), high level customer service, pitched in wherever needed, and since the pandemic, worked and managed productively.
My son suggested I prepare 3 resumes - one for each of my experience areas - (1) legal research, writing, and editing. (2) Human Resources, payroll and benefits admin, (3) bookkeeping, accounting, and local, state and federal business compliance.
Thoughts? I want to make enough to postpone drawing social security until full retirement age - about 3 years out. I do not expect or even want the kind of salary I was making.

I think your son is right: Prepare the three resumes & explain that you have not an inkling to retire soon. I think all places risk losing their older workers to retirement & don't want to invest in them. Sadly, ageism exists. But I'm hoping you beat the odds. Good luck!
