I share these ideas from my 22 years as cs manager and general coordinator and to invite cs/retail agents to think out of the box to reach meaningful promotions👍

Ever had to make a customer wait more than 45 seconds on chat or over the phone while you look up information?

For almost 2 decades now, every website with a chat service or phone support I see makes us wait as customers while the agent fetches the info.

The idea:

• Together with IT, in my previous position, I started to implement games and quizzes that would pop up as an option in the chat box for the customer to play while he waits for the CSR to return with an answer and in exchange for a percentage discount on his next purchase*

• These games and quizzes would be short, ideally fun, and completely focused on the company’s products. The customer would have to do some quick and easy browsing around the company's website and win to earn the discount.

• Obviously, it takes work from IT and/or software programming to make those games plus linking them to the Chat/Phone through APIs.

• The game's link would pop up as an automatic command as the agent asks the customer to please wait until he gets the info.

• The command would also specify the approx time it would take to complete the game and that it’s about the company’s main products/services and he may need to browse the website to find the correct information.

• Just the fact of offering a fun game that replaces the wait time flips 180 degrees the experience and incentivizes visitors to come back. But it's also a great opportunity for companies to gather valuable information in order to play and during the game for future email marketing.

• As the game ends another link would open up to do another longer game out of the chat/phone and require more extensive browsing of the company’s website for an even more significant discount.

• I’m sure that with a bit of imagination we can also find its equivalent for onsite customer service and Retail.

I have to say, I never saw the light for this project since in the middle of its implementation, new ownership had taken over the company I worked for, they did big spending cuts and incurred unethical practices leading me to leave the position.
