Short but Trustworthy list of Companies with Explicit Favorable Hiring Policies for the 50+ 💪📢

.

https://i.pinimg.com/564x/a9/e6/51/a9e6513d209d415015a5458ca8d00c45.jpg

For personal purposes, I did some research about companies that would hopefully have genuine friendly hiring policies for the 50+. I came across Directory type businesses that compile lists of companies with such policies but to my regret, I found that none of these directories can guarantee the trustworthiness of their information. They dont conduct any kind of objective audit. .

Some just have companies sign a super easy and short online pledge … For example, AARP but absolutely no control to ensure the signer companies actually fulfill their commitment. Others just offer companies they post a job on their site to be considered age-friendly.

Nonetheless, after many hours, I managed to draft a mini but at least - trustworthy list of genuine age friendly companies.

But actually, my first thought from this shortage of solid, useful information is precisely that it could be a great business idea to set up a legitimate directory website, You could charge users to access your list.

My very small but super-vetted list:

  • Work At Home Vintage Experts: https://wahve.com/ ( Remote work - ONLY for the 50+,they specialize in Insurance, accounting and human resources)

  • operationable.net/scsep ( Only Massachusetts and New Hampshire )

  • Walt Disney World ( Very active in hiring the 50+)

  • U.S. Census Bureau ( For seasonal work)

  • IRS ( For seasonal work) https://www.jobs.irs.gov/resources/job-descriptions/seasonal-employment-opportunities#:~:text=We%20hire%20year%20round%20and,to%20apply%20to%20our%20openings.

  • AMC Theatres

  • McDonald’s

  • YMCA ( Pending on locations)

  • Walgreens

  • Ace Hardware ( In the Retail Stores)

  • Home Depot ( In the Retail Stores)

  • Rover.com ( Dog sitting- walking)

  • National Grid ( Energy sector, engineering and electrical operators, warehouse)

  • Urban Health Plan

  • PKF O'Connor Davies ( Accounting and Tax Consultants)

  • Riverdale Country School New York City ( For teachers)

  • Lee Spring ( Manufacturers of mechanical springs)

  • Silvercup Studios (Film industry, many types of jobs)

  • The Bronx Zoo

  • Steinway & Sons (The Piano company)

  • Educational Alliance (NYC)

  • Veselka ( NYC Diner)

  • Sew Right ( NYC -hires 50+ people to sell and repair sewing machines, fabrics and provide needlework classes )

  • relevantdb.com ( Software Engineers! )

Hope it can serve some out there👍

4 Full Remote Work Companies with No Interviews - No Background Checks - No Experience Needed - No Boss - AND Completely Flexible Schedule. ✅👍

.

Ok, so where is the catch right? Unlike many youtubers who always keep the bad stuff for the end, lets get to that right away:

Pay rate isn't great: $11-14/hr But who can say its not a super opportunity for all those in a tight financial situation, an ex felony issue, or having a super hard time landing an interview?

Companies: They are in the Artificial Intelligence field:

Appen - Telus International - WeLocalize - UHRS

What’s the job about:

  • Many available tasks: Evaluating websites to ensure they meet certain quality criteria and match the web search query
  • Evaluating the web query itself: correcting erroneous or incomplete queries so the automated systems from Google, Microsoft etc show better results.
  • Evaluating website and social media ads and posts
  • Translation
  • Evaluating and transcribing Speech to Text files. You evaluate the naturalness of audio files and/or transcribe them.
  • More complex linguistics projects.

Requirements:

  • No experience needed, it’s easy peasy. For most projects, you just need a High School Diploma. They dont check it though.
  • For more complex projects they do require a matching degree and they check it.

Hiring Process:

  • General sign up- May take a few weeks for Appen to approve you. I found the others were faster.
  • Pick a project: Very fortunately, there are always many available.
  • Study the Guides that come with each project
  • Pass an “Open Book” quiz
  • Some of these companies require you to pass a simple English test.
  • If you pass you start onboarding. It can take weeks before you actually start working, it depends on how many people are on that project's roster and their manager’s efficiency.

TIP 1 for those afraid of online quizzes: you can find many of the project's answers in ….. 🥁🥁... REDDIT!

Still, its much better to study the guide because anyway, you will need to know how to do your task once you begin production, plus its very easy👍

TIP 2 To start working the earliest possible

Human nature is such that we always seek the easy way out… so when on those websites, most people apply for the projects appearing in the first pages…

START your search on page 5-6 AND PICK a project you feel is the biggest pain in the rear. Most other people will avoid them and thats YOUR OPPORTUNITY. The projects manager will onboard and get you to work much quicker😎👍

Flexibility

  • Most projects require anywhere from 10 to 20 hrs weekly. You choose when to work.

Performance

  • Although you have no direct boss overlooking your work on a daily basis, this is no party. Your work is being regularly monitored for accuracy by other audit workers and after 3 big policy infringements you’re out of the project** If that repeats on your second project, you will be terminated.

  • My experience working in 3 of the 4 companies is that they are pretty flexible with common mistakes. And if you have a doubt about an issue its best to contact the audit team before they contact you with a flag…

  • In all 4 companies,. you can choose to work on several projects.

Overall best company for me I find Telus International has more difficult quizzes with longer guides to study but they pay a bit more (14), I loved that they are super organized ( Not so for Appen) and they also have customer service roles.

As always, I hope this helped someone👍

Don't Leave Money on the Table: How to Negotiate Your Civilian Job Offer

The idea of negotiating your salary and benefits might be a foreign concept.

... especially when you’re transitioning to the civilian workforce. After all, the military predetermines your compensation throughout your military career, and negotiation isn't typically a part of the process.

But negotiation is common in the civilian world.

If you don't want to leave money on the table, you’ll need to advocate for yourself. You can negotiate your salary and benefits package, and most organizations completely expect you to do so.

Here are 7 tips to help you navigate the negotiation process and get what you deserve:

  1. Do your research.

What’s the market value for your role? You’ll need to figure this out before you go into salary negotiations. Look at job boards to find out what other companies pay for similar roles in your local area. Most importantly, lean on the wisdom of mentors - people already working in the field you want to go into. Mentors can help you zero in on a fair salary range.

  1. Don’t immediately accept the first offer.

You’re probably excited to have a job offer, but don't feel pressured to accept it right away. Take some time to evaluate whether the offer meets your needs and expectations. Ask for 48 hours to respond to the offer and use this time to formulate your response. A reputable employer will be willing to wait a little longer to secure a good candidate.

  1. Consider your benefits.

Salary is only one piece of the compensation package. You can also negotiate for other benefits - things like vacation days, flexible working arrangements, a sign-on bonus, education/training, or relocation assistance. Knowing what benefits are important to you and being able to articulate why they’re important can help you negotiate a package that meets your needs.

  1. Leave your emotions at the door.

Emotional language can derail the negotiation process. Instead of saying “I won’t accept anything less than X salary,” try saying “Based on my research, the market rate for this position is higher than the initial offer. Can we discuss a more competitive salary?” When countering an offer, use language that’s appreciative of the opportunity yet direct, clear, and objective.

  1. Be prepared to compromise.

Remember that negotiations are a two-way street. If the employer can't increase your salary, they might be willing to offer more paid time off, for example. Focus on what matters most to you and be willing to give up some benefits in exchange for others. This can help you get a package that meets your needs without putting the company in a difficult position.

  1. Understand that there may be non-negotiables.

The initial offer might be the company’s best and final offer, and they may say “no” to your requests. But how the company responds to your counteroffer is still valuable information. If they handle the situation professionally and respectfully, it can be a positive sign of their company culture and how they treat their employees.

  1. Get everything in writing.

Once you’ve negotiated the job offer, make sure everything is put in writing. This will minimize the risk of future misunderstandings and ensure that everyone is on the same page. A written offer letter or contract should include all the details of the job offer, compensation, and benefits package. Review it carefully before signing and accepting it.

Operation Lone Star Ols Platoon Sergeant Manager Of Personnel And Operations at Army National Guard

Well let's take a deep dive into this question.

I have currently completed over 17years in the military to include still being active in the Guard. The opportunity to be in the guard provides a few benefits such as:

  1. Military retirement
  2. Opportunity to become a veteran which will offer you a keen knowledge into a certain profession based on what you decide to do.
  3. Offers experience in said occupation which will allow your experience to grow and facilitate you further with finding an occupation in the corporate industry.

It is based on knowledge and experience. Real world expertise into the occupation of your choosing.

Those are just a few main take ways when deciding to join the Army National Guard.
