It's OK to correct an Upper when you're right

Many years ago i worked as a field tech, drug tests for federal employees, after incidents and pre-employment.

Someone got the great idea for all the Big Wigs to go through the testing process, to better understand what employees experienced.

One of those BigWigs wrote the book (litterally) on laws and procedures in drug testing.

I went through the entire process with all 13, pretty standard.

As I was wrapping up the rulebook author told me I made a mistake and what it was -

At that time I didnt know he wrote the book but I knew he was wrong.

It wasn't easy to stay professional, calm, cool and collected while EVERYBODY in the room stared at me.

I maintained eye contact with my accuser, picked up my four inch wide procedures book and flipped to the page that contained what i had done - and handed it over.

He arrogantly began reading the paragraph aloud, his voice trailed off when he saw HE WAS WRONG.

He did apologize to me, in front of the group and via my supervisor.

I received an extra bonus and six weeks later a revised rulebook ;)
