Is a certificate in Phlebotomy only good in the state you passed the test?

I have a phlebotomy certificate (and a Medical Assisting Certificate and a EKG Tech certificate) that I earned in a New York school. As far as I can tell, the certificates don't specifically say that they are only good for Medical Assisting or Phlebotomy or EKG jobs in New York. However I think that such certificates are not always acceptable in other states than where you passed the test for them. If I have a phlebotomy certificate I earned in NY, can I apply for work in NJ? How about Baltimore or other neighboring states? There doesn't seem to be opportunities to work as a phlebotomist nearby. I would be willing to commute to neighboring New Jersey or even a bit further at last at first so as to get experience (and that is another question I have to post about), but am I wasting time applying for phlebotomist jobs anywhere other than New York?

What you do if you 55 and laid off?

After working at the company for many years I was laid off. Although I have experience it is hard to find a job. A phone interview is ok but not in person. Employers do not believe that humans can learn after 50. Because I am a human I do not know EVERYTHING but if you could give me a chance I will learn and I will do well. After applying to so many positions and 2.5 years in I give up. If the economy does not want me so be it. If you see me in the park or sleeping under the bridge just know I am not an addict. I am a hardworking person but I am too old to be hired and too old to for your 20-30 culture. I would look for something else but frankly, the tech is all I know. Thank you for your thoughts. #ageism #laidoff #python #careerchange #training #technology #certification #jobsearch #womanintech

Phlebotomist Technician

The last full-time job I had was September 2014 and I left due to the fact this new supervisor in the lab was gunning for my position... and I believe that it was because I would not cancel my back surgery that I had scheduled for over a year. The surgeon I had had a huge waiting list, people come from all over the country to see this man, so there was no way I was canceling to wait another year! It is not my fault that they did not find somebody to come in and help a replace me for the 12 weeks of FMLA. The last day I worked before I took leave there was a STAT in the E D. As I was walking out of the laboratory my new supervisor told me to take off my lab coat she needed to talk to me I told her about the STAT and how I had to take the ED a box full of supplies including tubes they had none and needed them yesterday. Again she told me to take off my lab coat and told me to make sure I wash my hands...really!?! Before this I knew there was something wrong that day, so we passed her office now I know she was taking me to human resources. She began to tell me and human resources she felt I was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Oh sorry guys I forgot to tell you for about a month I was looking internally for another position and I was interviewing within the corporation. As soon as I was told they were going to contact my supervisor to see how well I preform at my job, am I a team player and if I was disciplin etc. I had been at this job six years and never had a blemish on my record ever, not even a talking to, except write ups from patients and staff from the hospital that were pats on the back. Never a complaint! Out of respect I wanted to personally inform my supervisor that this was going to be happening so she wasn't taking my surprise by an email or a phone call so the day that she was going to be notified I contacted the person I interviewed with to see if he could wait until I talked to her out of courtesy, well of course she was unavailable all day closed door conferences. So unfortunately I had to send her an email explaining that somebody would be contacting her, that this was not the way I wanted her to find out that I would've rather talk to her face-to-face out of respect. I wouldn't be back to work for three days so I felt I had no other choice, I explained that the position I applied for was conducive to no weekends, holidays especially since I had a three-year-old at this time. I needed to be there more for him. I was hoping she would understand since she has children of her own. Well I guess I was wrong! I knew exactly why I was being pulled into HR she was P O about my medical leave coming up and know that I was looking to transfer out of the department. So if she wanted to taint me. There is so much more with her but I'll continue with my 12 weeks of FMLA a being over and going back to work. I returned on a Thursday she never approached me to see how things went to see how I was want to find me several times. On Friday she told me to take my lab coat off again and we went back to Human Resources. She stated the same about me being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, no last time I offered to take a drug screen and it human resources said no that won't be necessary there's not a blemish on your record you've been an exemplary employee Yada yada yada. Well this time they told me they were going to call security and they were going to take me to another hospital to be tested I was so upset I was crying and I told them they were wasting their money. So this is a holiday weekend and since I work in a lab and this was being sent out of our area by 60 miles at least I figured they would receive my urine Friday evening sometime it may or may not be tested so I figured at the very latest since Monday was a holiday the doctor may be out on vacation so Tuesday Wednesday Thursday I figured it wouldn't be resulted so Friday definitely. Well 18 days later there was still no results on my drug screen so they said. Now because I knew I was going to be clean they were gonna have to pay me for all of those days but because I came off of a three month plus leave I have no money. So I was hurting! I received an offer for a job through a new company it was a six dollar pay cut their work some Plus sides so I figured and could work itself out not to mention I needed to get out of this situation I was in with my current job I knew they weren't going to stop until they were firing me. The results of my drug screen as I knew they would be where resulted the very first Friday I dropped. I called the doctor that performed the test and asked him what the holdup was he was confused because he resulted and contacted my employer in less than an hour after receiving my specimen. So I believe they were trying to find stuff on me, I called them I called the house supervisor and said what's going on they insisted that they don't know about an hour later I get a call to come in the next day. So I did I was asked if I had time to reflect I listen to their crap for about 15 minutes and let my supervisor Yammer on she passed my badge back to me which was across the table. HR was writing stuff down she was yammering on she never even knew I put my badge right back to the middle of the table. I let her go in a little while longer and then I interrupted her and I said you don't have to go on any further I resign they were both in disbelief asking me why why why I laughed. Anyway the job I went to work and didn't last but eight months it was not for me people cut corners didn't follow policies the or procedures expected me to do the same thing. First off I would never ever ever jeopardize the patient's life even my manager who was in charge of the site and RN wanted me to bring procedures policies I couldn't do it. I've been in healthcare since I was a junior or senior in high school and my motto has always been treat these people these patients as if they were your family and I stand by that! Not to mention this was at dialysis clinic I have no knowledge of dialysis the training was awful I was constantly being told if state were here you wouldn't do it this way" I finally said why don't you train me as if state was here. I'm sorry this has been so long and drawn out but it was a mutual separation not a fire I still can get excellent references from these people they did like me I just was not a good fit there. So I was out of work for four months I got a job drawing blood from patience and rehabilitation and long-term care facilities which lasted 10 mo. During this time I had applying everywhere 10-20 times at some places I can barely get a phone interview. I've had two in face-to-face interviews I actually was offered it to positions in the beginning of August HR was going to check on something and get back to me a week goes by I called once to find out what was going on. Second week goes by and I called them once to find out what is going on. Third week goes by, I am pleasant still asking him what's going on I haven't heard from you guys you didn't return my phone calls fourth week goes by and left another message with HR contacted the supervisor I interviewed with on a panel nothing from her. I have to look at as God intervened maybe I was walking into another hellhole something that wasn't going to be good for me. But who does something like that to somebody this company is a global company they are known what the heck happened? Why am I having such a hard time getting a job? I've been drawing blood for 17 years, went to an accredited school that my diploma in Phlebotomy I am not certified, they're only three states in the nation that require it I would never of gotten any benefit no xtra extra money no job advancement. I know this because I thought that I was certified since 1999 and when I was looking to leave the hospital that's when I found out. I don't know if this is an age issue, if this is because I was fired at one time I finally had to reduce my starting wage. Of course I did not think that I was going to start anywhere new and get what I was making and hospital so I dropped it by $5.00. And still nothing! I have a five-year-old to support my bills are so far behind I'm going to be out on the street! I'm a hard-working her I would do good for anybody I follow the rules I would not going to accompany and trying to change what's going on in their system because of my experience. I just don't understand what the deal is! And I see so many of you every day talking about this and I had to voice this I'm angry I'm frustrated. So I contacted a national certifying agency and I am going to review material before I take the test because I know I would do well or I believe I would, but I know that a lot of it is going to be knowledge from the textbook stuff that in all reality is not used in a laboratory, at a blood center. Of course a lot of it will be but there are things that aren't and I don't want to go in to thinking that I will do well without any preparation that would be foolish. These jobs that I've been applying for A lot of them do same certification preferred or education from an accredited school which I do have. So am I not getting any hits because I'm not certified? That's why I have to take this exam. I don't believe that's what it is, are my previous employers bad mouthing me? Is there anybody out there that can give me some ideas on what's going on? Any leads on jobs anyone they could hook me up with? I live in Wisconsin and I am even applying for jobs in Illinois there are about 20 to 30 miles from my house. I am so desperate I'll drive 50miles further into Illinois. I do have to apologize for the lengthiness of this post! Thanks You all very much for listening to my rant. Good Luck to you all! K

EPIC Certification

I'm looking to become EPIC Certified. I have been trained but unable to become certified. Yes, I have reached out and researched schools but if I get that sign in the pit of my stomach, I discontinue with the entire process. I have 7 years of EPIC training. I'm desperately wanting to obtain my certification. This will allow me to be able to take travel assignments or excellent local assignments. I've asked before and very, very adamant to asking again: Does anyone have ANY knowledge or helpful road maps for EPIC Certification? I truly appreciate a helping hand in this for 2017. Thank you All in advance!
