I was starting a job recently, and in the orientation they mentioned that they "used Microsoft Teams a lot." I was like, "great! I have a lot of experience with Teams and Slack, etc." Later on they added that we should chime in on Teams when we arrived, when we went to lunch, if we were away from our desks for more than ten minutes, and when we signed out for the day.

As you can imagine, I'm getting teams chats all day long. And then, there are coworkers who comment on people's check-ins with emojis and gifs every time. I like a good gif, and appreciate a response as much as the next eager young professional, but it's all a bit tiresome...

Of course, I turned off the pop-up notifications and the sound, but clogging up the channel like that seems excessive... I really think there have been some great strides in productivity thanks to new technologies, but this is making me into a curmudgeon!

(I'll admit it is kinda nice to have a fun office group chat... but this isn't that.)

By default, many of us can be substandard guilty by association or circumstantial information that really doesn't apply. Nobody is perfect!

Instead of fighting a case to the sweet and bitter end with 100% assurance you're going to win; allow someone else to coach us to take an out of court settlement, then call it a day.

Case and Point: When you know you have passed the interview with flying colors; they give you a Notarized Offer Letter for Hire, hand-to-hand and face-to-face and with no questions asked...

Why do we then accept a minimum wage salary and sign our name at the signature block below, instead of negotiating the salary rate we truly need? Go-figure?

Lessons Learned: Stop accepting out of court low salary rate settlements, when you're in a position to positively win.

Change your thinking to know and grow.
