Avoid saying these 5 phrases at work...

If you’re looking to advance in your career, thinking about the way you communicate is a good place to start. Avoid saying these 5 things in a professional environment.

  1. “But” - Simply stop after the statement. If you must add a conjunction and second phrase, use “and.” For example, “That’s a great idea, and we can look at it more closely.”
  2. “This might be stupid/silly” - Simply state your idea without qualifying it. You’ll be more valued for your contributions.
  3. “Respectfully” - Same goes for the word “honestly.” If you’re reacting out of anger, take a moment to collect your thoughts to respond appropriately.
  4. “I’m so busy” - It’s rarely a good idea to just respond with a general “I’m busy,” as there’s little anyone can do about that except you.
  5. “Try” - If you’re not convinced you can complete a task, give specifics about the challenges or concerns. That can help you get the clarity, assistance, or resources you need.

What else should you avoid saying #OnTheJob or in #interviews? #jobsearch

What's the best question to ask during a job interview?

#Interviews should never be a one-way conversation. Ask yourself, is this a place I want to work at? You should feel empowered to guide the conversation and ask questions during the interview.

The first question I always ask is: What are your expectations for the person who is hired?

This key question will create a clear picture of what to expect from the job day to day - and if you really want to work there. Here are the top 20 questions to ask during an interview.

After being a stay at home single mom And out of work for so long I am under qualified.

After being a stay at home single mom I am under qualified. My son is 11 years old and I have not worked for at least 12 years. I don’t know how to work that into my résumé. Any suggestions? I feel that being a stay at home parent is genuinely hard and diverse work, but I do not know how to convey that into my résumé or under job skills. #gettingbacktowork #resume #advice #homemakersareceos #unqualified #interviews #jobsearch #notuptodate #workingmoms

Job Interviews are Business Meetings, not Auditions.

Both sides have a need. Companies need a solid employee and employees are looking for a meaningful opportunity.

Hiring is tough for companies, even though they seldom talk about it. Recognize your value and bring your best professional self to determine if a role is right for YOU.

The #1 way I prepare for interviews

The way I prepare fore interviews is to develop a "story bank." These examples should be in your resume, and in the interview be prepared to elaborate...

Interviews will often have "tell me about a time when ___ " type questions. Write out beforehand a few scenarios that could potentially fit those types of questions. And if you don't have an experience that fits their question, it's totally acceptable to say something like, "While I don't have an example of an experience like that, if I did, I would do [x,y,x]."

So when one of these questions comes out, just pull out a story from the bank - it's even possible to tell a story from the bank if it's not related to the question being asked.

Here is ONE skill that should be on your resume...

Employers and interviewers are looking for problem solvers, or people with a problem-solving mindset.

What does this mean to a boss? They want someone that will try out reasonable solutions to issues on their own rather than always depending on colleagues or managers.

Discover EIGHT MORE skills you can include in your #resume and bring up in #interviews!
