Yard Goat drivers move trailers to dock doors to get them unloaded. This position requires only a regular Class C license, but some companies require a driver to have a Class A. Yard Goat’s only drive in the yard unless it’s to transport from another yard up the street.
Class C positions will pay $20-$25 per hour. Class A positions will pay $30 per hour.

TWIC CARD
The Transportation Worker Identification Credential, also known as TWIC, is required by the Maritime Transportation Security Act for workers who need access to secure areas of the nation’s maritime facilities and vessels. TSA conducts a security threat assessment (background check) to determine a person’s eligibility and issues the credential. U.S. citizens and immigrants in certain immigration categories may apply for the credential.
Any commercial driver that is interested in working inside our nation’s port will need a TWIC card. Working inside the ports is the easiest most laid back driving job ever with a higher pay scale than most other truck driving positions. We have normal schedules that are Monday-Friday and are about 40 to 50 hour work weeks. I generally only drive to the ports and back to our yard which is a 15 mile round trip. If you live near a port, I highly recommend finding a carrier that transport port hauls. Another convenient thing about the TWIC card is that if you happen to travel by plane, you will be able to skip any line at the airport by showing the TSA your TWIC card.
Some requirements to get approved for a TWIC card is that you have to be a U.S. resident, no felonies for 7 years, and you cannot have been convicted of murder or espionage. It’s a $93 dollar non refundable fee and it takes around 3-6 weeks to complete the process.

Being out on the road as a trucker you are bound to run into a situation where your cell signal will go dead. This is fine in most normal circumstances, but what if something a little more urgent is happening.
What should you do if you find yourself in an urgent matter stuck in a cell phone dead zone?
📱🚛 KEEP TRYING AS YOU DRIVE
- If you’re able to, in most cases, you can drive an additional 10-20 miles and get a signal.
📱🚛 GO TO HIGHER GROUND
- Sometimes obstructions such as trees and buildings can cause cell interference, if there is higher ground available, you should try and get a signal up there.
📱🚛 GET A CELL SIGNAL BOOSTER FOR YOUR VEHICLE
- As easy to attach to your big rig as a CB Radio, this might be a worthwhile investment.

Go to DMV and take permit test for Class B and the airbrake test. Once you obtain this you can go to a truck driving school. There are also employers who will train you like Pepsi and coke as well as beer distribution company's. That is how I obtained my class a cdl. I have been driving OTR for 20 years. Good luck to you.
