Kitsap has had a drop off.

The Kitsap county are has had a major drop off in jobs.... Little disconcerting. Maybe its a sign of more economic trouble in my area.

Kitsap County is an economic dead end.

Never move to Kitsap County in Washington state. Its a economic dead end. No work other then low wage work. Its anti small business so starting a business in this place will send you to the poor house. Fighting the local regulators. Cost of living is to high so even if you get work. You are not getting very far head of the game. Then you could get trapped like myself and are unable to leave. Thanks to low wage work and no way to save up to move to a better job location.

Still frustrated....

My area is economically a low man on the totem pole. Meaning we have about 10 to 15 percent unemployment most of the time. Regardless if the economy is doing well or not. What that means for me is I can't get a decent job that would allow me to save up to move to a better work area. Where there are jobs. What jobs there are here where I live are mostly low wage retail work. So that leaves me trapped in a area I loath to death and have no way out. People in my area say I should like the low wage job I have. Basically discouraging the idea of better work, or I should like a job I am bored out of my mind with. So fed up with it all. . . . . . . #lowwage #minimumwage #KitsapCounty #KItsap #highunemployment #jobs #Fedup #tired #unemployment #Washington #WA #WashingtonState #PNW #fulltime #fulltimeemployment #wornout #lifesucks

Yes the economy is good for rich people not for the poor if the economy is so good why is there so many freaking poor people struggling in "today's good economy"?

A question about programming/coding training.

Anyone here have any good recommendations on coding training in or around the Puget Sound area? Someone has offered to pay for my retraining and I want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Hey Mike Grauer Jr , I think that's Fantastic that someone is offering you access to learn a trade with job skills that are in very high demand. I don't have a Coding program I can personally recommend to you within that area but I'm sure there are some Awesome coding Bootcamps throughout the Seattle area, see 7 coding bootcamps in Seattle.

Here's what I've been able to pick up from other member about coding the bootcamp selection process.

Bootcamps lengths are anywhere from 3 - 12 months depending on the coding programs you prefer and/or level of experience/expertise when you go into the program.

Select your preferred language but keep in mind the more languages you know the better your job prospects will be upon graduation.

Online vs Classroom. This is another key factor to consider. Classroom learning is a traditional method most students are familiar with. There are a lot of obvious advantages (one on one learning, peer training, more collaboration, real time assistance, etc.) but these programs require full time schedule commitments working students find difficult to accommodate. Online learning may offer a more flexible schedule solution.

Do you already have a program selected? What type of languages are you interested in? Keep us updated on your progress with this career opportunity Mike Grauer Jr . Sounds Exciting!

Happy 4th of July :-)

Frustrated.

What is the point in being smart, well educated when most of the employers around me only hire based on how well you do on a personality test?

Amen They reduce everyone to the lowest common denominator To them we are expendable We are a necessary evil And where they can they find ways not to need us at all like using AI and robotics Global Market means cheap labor Read the book Dying for a Paycheck It is tough truth but you will get a real view of what we are up against As the author writes jobs are getting more and more precarious with shift work with uncertain scheduling and low paying gig economy

I have no clue what to do anymore.

I am stuck in my area because of family obligations. My area is all retail, I have given my all to try to get hired by one of them. No go. Over educated for my local job market. Don't fit the personality type they are looking for ether.

Another thing...of course, this is time-consuming...write a book. A city that looks down on business...our society now thinks it is okay to cage kids, etc., etc., etc..the list goes on. What a mess this world has become, even though some people love it. I remember years ago when people tried, at least tried, to be nice to one another...social media lets some people bully other people online. An aside here...I could barely afford a wedding gift for a fellow employee I did not know well..her thanks to me...."oh...thanks for getting that off my registry at that store..they were wondering"...I mean, the uncouthness (if that is a word) of the world is unbelievable!

Have you tried any fast casual or casual dining restuants. In this sector we use very similar skills to retail. Can be a little more fast pasted and we take just about any experience even none

Fedup, frustrated, Depressed.

Only jobs I seem to be able to get is part time minimum wage work. Does not seem to matter what my skills are or my education or past successes. Its been that way my entire working like. I can't seem to get anything better. People around me act like I have never worked a day in my life. That the current job is my first job. Low wage work then long periods of unemployment. So tired of it.

Hi Mike--You gotta give me more to work with to make suggestions! First, smile, and be grateful for what you've got. Look through that list and see who can help you with your next step--your next contact, your resume update, etc. What kind of work are you trained for, skilled in, what are your successes?

I am at my wits end.

What do you do when the only jobs in your area are retail and they won't touch you with a 10 foot pole because you are not an extrovert? Its getting frustrating. Only jobs are the retail jobs and thats it. I don't have an option to move to a different area with other job options. They ether don't hire me because I don't fit their personality test or they look at my education level and say you are to educated or we view you as a threat to our jobs as managers just based on education. That includes the food service end of retail.

Who cares my degrees are worthless degrees, the bottom fell out on the animation world, unless you have major industry experience when you graduate college and no one has that. Employers see MBAs as wasted degree now. As it does not prove you know a thing in their eyes.

People tell me to start a business, but that is not an option. No money and even if I did. My counties business regulations make it extremely hard and expensive to start one. (They wonder why they have 10+ percent unemployment rate here)

I am at my wits end.

An introvert can have a very good person and even be charming. Plus be very intelligent about what they are selling. If you can talk to your friends you can talk to customers. It a skill you can develop. I'm introvert like you. Your job will be to seek out your customers and help them. I enjoy helping people help themselves and it can fun. That what customer service is about. Try it and don't give up, you never know you might be an ace at it.

I understand that Mike Grauer Jr . Sometimes we just can't find any jobs not because we aren't worth hiring, but because there are very few, if any jobs in the area we're in.

There are a couples things you can do. You can try to work remotely if your skills allow it. You can move to an area with better job prospects (extreme, and in many cases not possible), or try to find a job in an area you're new too and learn how to do that.

I hope this help Mike!
