As a Generalist, you can wear many hats. I would work with leaders when then needed help in issuing performance management documents, warnings, terminations. I would work with employees on improving performance and gaining knowledge/improving performance.

I worked with leaders on annual reviews and merit-based raises. I conducted orientation and leadership development training. I would conduct investigations. I helped employees understand open enrollment and benefit elections, and when an employee forgot or didn't enroll in a benefit, I had to help them understand that without a qualifying event, they would not be able to make changes.

I would enter and review information in our HRIS system. I have enjoyed both Generalist and Specialist roles, there are a lot of moving parts and you have to help make sure those things get done and that they meet any legal test. You will take many notes, but you also have to make sure that leaders and regulators that might review your notes in 5, 10 years can also read and understand easily.

I like working overnight due to ten plus years of working graveyard due to the high cost of childcare. And night work seems to pay better all the way around. It is definitely a different type of energy because I have worked it all. I feel better and more productive at night than I do during the day.
