Endorsements

There are six different types of endorsements for for Classes A,B, and C. From my own personal experience, I recommend getting all these endorsements after you obtain your CDL. Studying for your endorsements test while studying for your CDL can result in information overload and cause you to fail your tests. The Hazmat endorsement is probably the most difficult test and is approximately 50 questions with questions ranging from what to do in an emergency, the transportation of explosives, the transportation of radioactive materials, parking restrictions, etc.

While some of these endorsements may not apply to a driver’s current job duties, I suggest getting all these endorsements because it will make you more valuable on your resume. It will also make a driver more flexible for future employment opportunities. For example, I have all my endorsements, and although I work in the ports I do not need my tankers, double & triples endorsements. But if I wanted to transition to haul fuel, I can without having the need to go study for the test make an appointment with the DMV which will possibly result in a missed job opportunity due to the lag in time. I also recommend getting a TWIC card because this will also make you more valuable to a company. When you have all your endorsements, this bumps you up to the top when applying for job opportunities. If you are studying for a CDL and endorsements test, use the CDL prep app which has all the questions from the DMV test.
