Thanks for your response, but please note this was nearly 60 years ago when I was in college. I was hired approx June '67 as a Fireman which was a union agreed to job, essentially apprentice engineer. At various times when they didn't have anyone else, I worked as Flagman, which was then second person on kaboose. In about Nov '69 I had to decide if I would take promotion to engineer which would have been full time and require me to drop out of college. I resigned, stayed in college and, as they say, the rest is history. I only indicated interest in railroad job now out of curiousity. I doubt I could work as a conductor or flagman now. work is too physically demanding. I probably could operate a switch engine if they're now anything like they were. I understand road engines are now almost entirely computerized. Im sure I could learn road operation, but if I worked at all I'd only work part-time. You probably need fulltime.
