Just asking for a chance

hi my name is freddy. i have a felony conviction from 1996. i have no parole or probation. i am trying to get my cdl through tdi but i can only try if i can get a truck company to be willing to hire me as soon as i get my cdl. its not easy but im trying to get a company to say that they will hire me. all i wnt is to be given a chance to prove my sincerety and willingness to start my life clean and not let my past choices stop me from reaching a better life. on my felony somebody died because of my negligence but i took responsibility and did my time. I was 26 when this happened and Im 45 now. we all make mistakes and all im asking is for an opportunity to prove my sincerety and willingness for work. It seems all the applicastions ive filled as soon as they see that i have a past conviction dont even think twice in throwing my application away. but im not goig to give up or get overwhelmed. Im sure someone outthere knows of a truck company willing to give me a chance if i get my CDL license or any place where I can get a job. if anyone knows how to help my email is Alfredomarty1970@yahoo.com or 205-352-3040

Is getting your CDL worth it?

A friend of mine has been considering getting their CDL for trucking. I was looking into it for them and found some benefits: training can be as short as 3 weeks, high levels of job security, competitive salaries averaging $39,000/year, part-time options, etc.

All of this sounds awesome but I was wondering if anyone with personal knowledge about CDL training/trucking in general could provide some insight or advice. Thanks!

It was fun job for me straight out of high schooll. And being that I did it in hawaii. Got to meet a lot of famous people. The pic physicals are a pain in the butt to do every other year. And depending on what company you work for the "random" drug test can be any where from every year to every other month

I don't have the experience to answer your question fully but I can attest to it being a fairly secure field to place yourself into. My bf has been a career driver for over 15+ years and there is a high demand for this line of work. It would be helpful for you to get a Hazmat along with the CDL you'll have more options that way. Make sure you have a very clean driving record prior to this. You don't partake in drugs (they do randoms all the time). It's an industry that seems to be age immune for the most part so being older will not be hit with age discrimination. It's a male dominated industry primarily that's either good or bad, you decide. The pay varies extensively from place to place so do the benefits. Do your research on companies as they are not all equal and many will embellish how much you will get as take home pay. You won't really feel that comfortable driving commercially until close to a year into it, or so I've been told. As always, these days it's about who you know not always what you know. Have a friend who does this for a living or a friend of a friend? Get them to help you get a job with a decent company. Hopefully this helps some and good luck! We all need it out there these days. One more person employed is a win win for all of us job seekers.

Hi D Drew, Make sure you add your location to your profile so your fellow Jobcasers know what jobs to send you. I would also suggest you take a few minutes to completely fill out your profile with your past experience, as this will also be helpful. You can then get a job search started here on Jobcase by using these steps: 1.Double click on the “Jobs” tab at the top of the page 2.Enter a job into the search field that says “Position” 3.Click on the blue button to search for that position in your area 4.Once the list is up, click on the title of any you are interested in to apply. Let me know if you need anymore help!

A 40yr old female looking to acquire a CDL, home daily in PA

Hello! I worked as a delivery driver for the past 15yrs. I suddenly got laid-off because my Co. was sold without any warning. I am VERY INTERESTED in getting my CDL (to be home daily, temporarily, since I have school age children, until they become of age)wondering if anyone has any advice, since I don't know where to begin. I am ONE HECK OF A WORKER, with unlimited amounts of stamina and I won't quit until the job is done! I have 2 letters of recommendation from the Employer (1 from the Chairman and 1 from the CEO) who laid me off. I just need some guidance in finding the best paid $ CDL w/being home daily?!

Every response/advice welcome! Thanks everyone!!

Hi Kristy! I am not familiar with the trucking world, myself, but I was able to find these two trucking schools in your area. The first is Sage Truck Driving Schools and the second is Roadmaster Drivers School. I hope this helps you get started on the path to getting your CDL. Best of luck!

Uber is a fast growing company where u can choose your own hours and make good money driving people where they need to go. I'm pretty sure it's all across the U.S. It's worth a try.
