Why can't I get hired? 10+ years of experience, college degree

Why can't I get hired? I'm a hospitality professional of over 10 years with a Bachelors Degree in Hospitality Management. I've worked with the largest names in the Hospitality industry and have been unemployed since March 2020 when my role was eliminated. Any advice? Hospitality professionals, how are your job searches coming along? #hospitality #jobsearch #wordsofadvice

Sorry you've been dealing with that! I graduated in 2020 with a hospitality degree (events emphasis) and I worked as a cashier then server then Doordash driver (which is nice and flexible) since then. I've been looking for seven months as before that I was planning my own event for the experience. I've gotten plenty of interviews the problems seem to be my lack of professional experience and lack of interviewing skills. I prefer Indeed for job searching because it's easier to apply with just your resume.

Housekeeper at Fairfield Inn Suites Marriott

The behind the hotel action is not as exciting as people describe it. In all honesty it is good if you have reliable co-workers that come in when they are scheduled to come in. If you're co workers are unreliable you have to have more than your share of rooms to clean because they decided not to show up. Then when we are for example booked up all the rooms need cleaning they have to be cleaned. At my hotel we have unreliable workers, and bosses that let them get away with not showing up, or walking off the job, or individuals that throw fits if they have to many rooms to do, I have been working there for three years nearly, and it has never been as bad as it has been this year, No one wants to do their job, no one wants to even show up for interviews for said job so it is frustrating to me, and other co workers that do take their job seriously to deal with these unprofessional ,temper tantrum throwing co workers that choose to work only on the days they want to work , or bother showing up. As for the whole incoming guest don't expect any kindness ,or common courtesy from them and forget about being tipped. It is around Christmas No one has left any tips because These guest do not acknowledge you as a housekeeper, or a person. You are nothing to these guest just garbage. Currently looking to get out of the hotel business all together. Between the lazy co workers and the self absorbed guest just not worth it any more.

Also on time , showing up for your shifts . Nothing worse when people don't show up last minute . Your putting someone else out and causing unneeded stress to another coworker and your manager. That goes for not being on time also. Yes it can be a very stressful industry . But if you stay awhile it will get easier . Don't let people get to you . Remember most customers that act rude or grouchy its probably because they are grumpy from hunger. If you give good service and keep being pleasant , I have found by time they are finish eating they become a lot more pleasant. 😀
