I had a coworker who told us that if we liked how we dressed, then we'd perform better at work. She was kind of joking, but it stuck with me.

Learn today , Lead tomorrow

I wish I had learned the skill of effective networking earlier in my career. For a long time, I focused mainly on building technical knowledge and doing the work, but I’ve realized that strong professional relationships open doors to opportunities, mentorship, and growth that aren’t always accessible through skill alone. Building those connections earlier would have accelerated my learning and career development.

Marketing effectively and patience. I rushed through both causing me to lose my light in the social industry.

I worked at an ecommerce health food startup, and we had a lot of vendors come through and have us sample their products. One of our favorite brands came in one day and gave us all a "Dopamine Bean" supplement, and we all took to it like catnip! We were more productive, more alert, more sociable—yet totally centered and mellow. Soon we were stocking it in the kitchen.

One day, our wise philosopher prince CEO (I say that with no irony) tried it randomly, LOVED IT, and decided it was "too potent" for the workplace. No more "Dopamine Bean."
