So many of us will work in Fast Food or Casual Dining Establishments during the course of our entire career, for various reasons. 📄⏳ This kind of work can teach strong multitasking skills, time management, teamwork, and a ton of other transferable skills you can use later on. 👯⏲

I know that so many of you in this Group are parents looking for work in Hospitality, and might be wondering how to balance your family with a job in #Foodservices! 💸👨👩👧👧🏡👩👧
When I was younger and working at a craft beer brewery, there were very few people on staff that did NOT have kids! 👯♂️ 👩👩👧👦 It seemed like the perfect job for a parent, mostly because you can usually set the boundaries you’d like in your schedule. ⏱ 📆 You can make your own hours sometimes, be there for school pickup/drop off, home first thing in the morning, and possibly work while the kids are asleep or in class! 🕰 🏫 🎓
The wild schedule of the service industry means that no matter what time of day you’re looking for a shift - you can likely find a local Restaurant or Hotel to meet your needs. 🏩 ⏰ There are ways to tell what your schedule will most likely be before you even apply, depending on what the establishment is serving, and when they are open for Business. 🕙 🧇🥓🕞🍔🍻
Another benefit of working in Restaurants while having children, is that your shifts often aren’t necessarily as long as they say they are on the schedule. There is a system to “cut” employees, especially excess serving and bartending staff - as the restaurant slows down and the clientele dwindles for that shift. 📉 That means a few people will be able to leave early, and still have made some cash for the day.💰
Often a Staff that is friendly and have worked together for a while, will let go of these workers first - parents that have to get home for bedtime, or to take care of their families. 👩👦👨👨👧 Staying longer means a chance to make more in tips, and usually there will be a fair system in place so everyone can leave early once in a while. 🎰 Childless Bartenders like me usually stay until the last minute, and want the chance to make as much as possible per shift. 💸✨🥱
Another added perk I’ve mentioned before about restaurant work, is being able to take leftover food home. For large families, having a few extra semi-fresh pizzas when they walk in the door, can make mom or dad seem like a superhero! 🍕🦸🏼♀️ As a child I had a Stepmom in Graduate school who worked at a local pub, and the shift meals she brought home were a special treat for all of us. The idea that a job would GIVE you food that normally costs a fortune, seemed like one of the best perks a job could offer! 🥰🥩🥘🍉
One possible benefit about working in Hospitality when you have a family, is that there is usually more flexibility when it comes to having a family emergency. 🚨☎️ I am not saying it is okay to call off more often in a Restaurant, we just frequently see it done, and Restaurant Staff are pretty used to being flexible and adapting to changes like these. 👯♀️🤳
🗓 Between the limited hours, flexibility, making your own schedule, being able to call off in an emergency, going home early sometimes, meals to take home to your family, and a chance to be distracted from a hectic home life - there are a lot of reasons Hospitality jobs are PERFECT for parents!! 💓
