Sounds like you were a great employee!! As long as you have documentation and your doctor kept records of your postponement, I would report to your state employment, find a lawyer, who fights for unjust termination. You don’t want your job back with this organization!!!! But you might get them for lost wages, insurance, vacation time. Also #1–check if you are in an “at will” state!! Not a lot you can do then.
