So since my last time posting on jobcase, I had to hard quit my old job I had at the time (dishwashing) due to my health and job affecting one anather in a vicious cycle that would've more than likely ended me either way. I'm still welcome to come in as a customer and friend to chat and order. Recently, I found an article posted online about my old work place, and while I didn't last there as an employee, I must agree with what they've said. I'm going to post the link here for any who want to check it out... https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/utah/made-from-scratch-restaurant-ut/ #termination #smallbusiness

So i worked at this cafe for year and a half. I was the longest person there besides one of the cooks and obviously the manager. So many people would come and go but i stayed. Well i got pregnant after 4 months and continued to work up until like 2-3 weeks before my due date. Took my leave and went back. From September until January they were giving me issues about pumping at work. I had told them when i went back i needed a space and now My supply was dropping tremendously. was only really able to pump during my break. Ive gotten walked in on by one of the male cooks so i left my shift because i was uncomfortable, then spoke to the manager about that space not working. He printed out a sign for me to hang up and everybody knew about the sign and not to enter, since the room i would pump in didn’t have a lock on the door. I still couldn’t go every 2-3 hours like i shouldve been because this one girl would take her break in that room knowing that that’s where i would pump, so i wasn’t able to go until i took my break which wasn’t until 11:30/12pm. 5-6 hours after pumping at home before i got to work. Somedays id be able to sneak away after and go again but all i was ever getting was 2oz because my supply was dropping. Well one day on my break i had the sign up and the same girl just barges in while I’m in the middle of pumping and goes “sorry” yet continues to walk in, grab what she needed, and leaves. So i left my shift again and texted my manager about my rights being violated and how ive been patient and could report them. Well during the holidays we were closing 2 hours early and working 3 day weeks and as we all know bills don’t stop. Checks were only about $200. So unfortunately i had 2 autopayments go through and had overdrafted $90 so i didn’t have any money to get on the train. As i was texting my boss, i mentioned how i was hoping to ask for a raise and told him i didn’t have the money for the train. Where j live there is all water so it isn’t like i could just walk either. While texting him, he texted me asking my ETA then after i sent my message he was pissed. He said we would talk later then later came and he fired me for “calling out at least once a week” but i have on my text record the last time i called out being 5 weeks prior. I argued just to show him he was wrong but kept it civil, and collected my check the next day. The crazy part is i was the best barista there. I handled making drinks and expediting calmer and moved faster than the other baristas. I didn’t get stressed over the work AND the owners have 2 children which the wife has told me herself were breastfed. But I’m glad I’m no longer working for a company that can’t value their longterm employees and make simple accommodations. #smallbusiness #cafe #accomedation #pumping #breastfeeding

I have always had multiple streams (paper routes, vending machines, etc) that never produce much income, but every trickle helps. I have been selling online since 2005 on websites like biblio, ebay, textbookrush, and Abe. I quit selling on ABE when they made selling more expensive (fees etc). A few years back they were bought by Amazon. I do not shop with Amazon (I also don't shop at many stores)as I do not like the company's chokehold on the industry. As such I am not getting the potential sale base I need. Recently I was offered a chance to sell on ABE (which also puts me on Amazon) for a free trial period of two months (cost is $60 a month plus % of sales). From my understanding I would have to list everything on their cloud & if I cancel all of my information will be deleted. So I would have to duplicate all of my inventory. ABE/Amazon has the potential to move this side job into a livable wage. I would love to be able to do that, but I wonder if this would be a moral slippery slope. Should I continue to be a small voice against the machine or just cave in so I can afford to live? #smallbusiness
