Machine Operator at Swagelok

A healthy work place to me would be where people can work together. Be friendly towards each other, and when it comes to ranking up in any company it’s from your hard work or what you know not who you know. Another point would be the morale on the shift needs to be good across the whole shift as well.. I am facing where my second shift teams morale is gone and it’s not good..

A healthy work place is where everyone works together to solve problems along with finding solutions to long term problems. Some of this requires creative thinking and at times, taking risks within the collective, understanding that they may not solve the problem although it would be a risk where solutions may come from the early risk. As a collective department, new adjustments occur and it is helpful that as the team moves forward, they think of future ideas and outcomes.

Do you research a company’s values before an interview? Why or why not?

Yes, I always research a company’s values before an interview—here’s why:

First, it shows genuine interest. Walking into an interview blind suggests I’m just looking for any job, not this job. Knowing their mission, ethics, and workplace culture helps me ask better questions and tailor my responses to show I’m a fit.

Second, it’s self-protection. A company’s values reveal whether I’d actually want to work there. If they prioritize cutthroat competition over collaboration, or pay lip service to work-life balance while expecting 80-hour weeks, I’d rather know upfront. Life’s too short to end up miserable for a paycheck!

Finally, it’s practical. Values shape daily life at a company—how decisions are made, how conflicts are handled, and what behaviors get rewarded. If I value transparency and they operate on secrecy, or if they tout innovation but resist change, it’s a red flag.

Research isn’t just about impressing them—it’s about deciding if they deserve me. I’ll dig into their website, employee reviews, and even news mentions to avoid nasty surprises later. A job isn’t just a role; it’s a relationship. And just like any relationship, you shouldn’t commit without knowing what you’re getting into.

Yes, sort of. I’m retired but I’m not sure if I’m completely happy with not being busy everyday. I stay busy 75% of the time but it’s usually purging things around my house, checking on my mom and aunt because of health issues, doing basic household chores, having lunch with friends and family, visiting family and friends in the hospital or nursing homes, etc. I’m looking into volunteering and or working part time.

Working in call centers are very toxic. It’s all about quota and numbers. If you’re trying to get someplace in the company, it’s a good start but get the hell out as fast as you can.
