Job hunting is a marathon, not a sprint!
Whether you have been at a job for ages, or unemployed for some time, jumping back up into the job search game can be super nerve wracking. Take it from me, before being happily employed at Jobcase, I was at another place for almost 9 years. That was a good chunk of my career, the majority of it actually.
I grew up in that place, got to try new things, meet great people, but I was ready to spread my wings and do something new. This meant that I had to now worry about dusting off my old resume, updating it with what I’ve been up to, talking to people to see what’s out there. It was definitely scary and exhausting. The preparation phase alone felt like a lot of steps, let alone when I actually started applying, that felt like a part time job in itself.
If you are gearing up to start looking, check out this great article on how to Restart your job search. My favorite part of the article are the tips on the elevator pitch, because if you’re anything like me, you’re not a fan of talking about yourself.

An interview is a two-way conversation!
A career mentor once ask me "what is the point of going through an interview, if you don’t get to ask questions of your own?". Her point of view was that sometimes asking the interviewer questions about:
- Company culture
- Team dynamics
- Manager benchmarks
DURING the interview is the only time you’ll get the chance to know if you truly want the job before the job is offered to you, because you get to compare your expectations with reality. From there you can make a decision on whether you liked the environment described or not. Remember, it’s not just the company making a decision here, you are too.

What are the red flags?
I've worked for companies that don’t post salary ranges on their jobs posts. In my experience, a lot of smaller companies aren't more transparent about compensation for fear of not seeming competitive enough. It's tough to get people to apply to certain positions. But, we should strive to create more transparency so that applicants don't end up feeling like they wasted time if they don't like the salary offered after going through 3-5 interviews.
