Terminated due to work affected by diabetes complications.

The medication 💊 (Metformin) ended up costing me the job I held at Salvin Dental Specialties for 6½ years. Yes, my former company’s lack of compassion played a huge role, but the truth is this medication had my brain 🧠 completely out of sorts. I was struggling, and when I finally opened up about it, the only thing they asked was what “reasonable accommodations” I needed… then put me on a PIP in the same conversation.

My mind was a mess from the Metformin, my vision became impaired due to the diabetes, and after six years of solid work, they showed zero concern for why things had suddenly changed. When I filed for FMLA to get the accommodations I needed, they let me go before my doctor could even finish the paperwork.

I’ve been off Metformin since September, and I finally feel like myself again. On top of that, my A1-C went from 13.5 in June to 6.4 in September. My PCP literally told me, first: “I could have killed you” (because of the medication), and then, “I have never seen anyone drop their A1-C like this in just 3 months.”

If you’re taking Metformin, please talk with your doctor about your options. I’m currently on no medication—just a disciplined diet and the grace of God. 🙌🏿 @highlight #termination #diabetes #ADA

“Have you ever exhausted your FMLA leave, and if so, did your employer initiate or offer additional leave under the ADA as a reasonable accommodation?”

Denied Reasonable Accomindation and now being reassigned to a new position

Normally I give others on this board advice but I am faced with a dilemma and need to act fast. Recently I learned I was denied reasonable accommodation and unfit for my job title. I am on the verge of getting a new title to add insult to injury it is a low level position. The dilemma is that I was accommodated in my current position for 12 years without an issue sometime last year I received a phone call from my eeo office on my job stating I exceed to my reasonable accommodation requests. I am now forced to go on interviews which I am being denied or not chosen for position without valid reason, my union is not helpful Infact, my union representative tells me I am lucky they are working with me because I could face termination if I don't cooperate well I feel my back is to the wall however I decided it was time to seek legal advice and hopefully they can help.
