I feel peer-to-peer feedback strengthens company culture and fosters trust between workers. This being said, management is a vital player when it concerns praise for deserving employees.

It just depends upon the job and work environment.
In some work environments, the maangement is offhand. In this case, the coworkers are sort of the supervising management.

You land your dream job tomorrow. What’s the first thing you do or buy to celebrate?

The first thing I would do is stop and give God the praise he deserves because it was him who help me get where I am. I would not buy a thing but I would be beyond thankful for being allowed the opportunity to have the job.

If I land my dream job, the first thing I would do research how to get even better and more of an impact.

What’s one skill you never expected would help your career — but ended up being super valuable?

The skill that I am most proud of is, being an excellent communicator. Communication is everything in the workplace. You may not always agree with one another but, being on common ground and completing the task at hand, is the most important.

Look and see everybody else is going through the same thing I am... I continue dearching

I've been looking for over a year. I try to stay upbeat and not get discouraged even when AI seems to eliminate me on perfect fit jobs. My main thing is to continually review jobs and change my resume to ensure that I am not complacent in just submitting the same resume over and over again.

If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of career advice, what would it be?

Get a PHD

Get your education earlier and do not place all of your hopes in one job. If Millenials have taught this GenXer one thing is that staying at a job that is no longer a fit can be detrimental to your mental health. Its okay to leave a company if you are not being treated right.

Besides a paycheck, what kept you coming back to work at The Home Depot every day?

I enjoyed what I did. I had a good rapport with repeat customers and enjoyed seeing them. Most of the associates were like family to me
