On the other hand, some restaurants may prefer to keep their doors open on holidays. 🍽️🍷🍸 This is also a great opportunity for workers who want to make extra income on those days. πŸ’΅

In my experience, most restaurants don’t get busy. I prefer to enjoy my day off if I’m not going to make decent money. πŸ’Έ

Every restaurant has its own operations and decision-making system regarding whether to stay open or not.

Although with the restaurant business is probably a truism in certain respects regarding on how their performances and profits go on a holiday there are those who will have an "outing" and join with their families etc. to celebrate, commend or give wonderful thanks to their loved ones and so on who have served their country?

Also, those who decide to close their doors to honor that important U.S. day of memory are more than welcome to do so, in the giving of that time off for their employees.

Learning the menu when I work at a new restaurant is always a challenge for me. Communicate openly with one another! Everything may be mastered best via patience. It is impossible to learn every item on the menu in a single week. After having worked at the restaurant for over six months, there are still several menu items that I don't remember exactly.

In order to be confident when interacting with visitors, a server should be quite knowledgeable about the menu. Furthermore, the server might offer recommendations depending on the guest dietary needs and tastes if they are familiar with the menu. This can improve the diners' overall eating experience and raise their level of satisfaction with the service.

The Flash Cards method is frequently recommended when a server has to learn the menu items. Typically, flashcards have two sides: one side has the prompt and the other side has information concerning the prompt.

I start learning with flashcards when I work at a new restaurant. It quickly helped me in learning a few ingredients. I'm never knowing what is expected of some menu items.

Making a few words about the menu items in my notebook is my other approach. When a customer asks me a question regarding a particular dish or ingredient, I can immediately look up the information in my notes and respond. I started to recall the answers to the menu questions after I went through this process and stopped having to look them up in order to respond to questions.

I’m sharing with you restaurant terminology. Don’t feel alienated when you start your new career in a restaurant.

86 –To cut something from the dish or the restaurant has run out of a particular item.

Behind – A quick way to let your coworkers and guests know that you are near them to prevent any tripping accidents.

Bev Nap – A small square napkin for drinks.

BOH – Back of House – The back of the restaurant, the kitchen and storage areas where the cooks, preps, and dishwashers primarily work.

Corner – Direction that staff give when turning a corner to avoid collision.

Cut – When a server has been cut from taking more tables.

Double – Refers to a waiter or waitress shift when they work two shifts in a row.

Expo – Person in charge of organizing the food prior to it leaving the kitchen. They tend to prep the plates and make sure the meal is complete and the presentation looks good.

Fire it – Order given to start prepping food. β€œFire those steaks.”

Fly – Shorthand for β€œpoultry” in your walk-in cooler.

FOH – Front of House – This refers to the bar and dining room – any part of the restaurant that the guests can see.

In the Weeds – Overwhelmed; busy; see also: spinning.

As the host, it's your main responsibility to make sure everyone is happy by maintaining manners, keeping an eye on activity at the tables, and ensuring a great dining experience.

Ensure that you have all the required supplies, including note paper, pencils, highlighters, and seating charts, and ask your manager if you need anything more. A good host should have spotless silverware available.

Pay attention to section arrangements, table layouts, server stations, party sizes, and arrival times when assigning new tables. Consider reservations while making seating charts, as well as the quantity of available tables in each section.

Notify servers whether they can accommodate larger gatherings and how much space they have for several tables. Making sure everyone is on the same page and asking if they're prepared for more tables is important.

During a busy dinner shift, check tables by walking the floor with your seating plan. Keep an eye out for guests who have moved on to dessert and seated but empty tables, since waitstaff might soon be available for new reservations.

Starting work at a new restaurant is always exciting because we get to meet new people and experience a fresh atmosphere, which makes us feel excited about the new location.

At the same time, learning about the new menu, drinks, and customer demographics can be overwhelming.

Training for new servers should be simple if your restaurant has a good training program.

The first day of training should include the locations of the coolers, dry storage, sections, and coffee area. The remainder of the shift should be spent following around experienced servers and observing the environment and how it operates.

The second day of the training should be at the expo. Running food allows you to learn table numbers and what the dish looks like. At the end of each shift, a trainer should test some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes.

The third day of training should be spent behind the bar alongside the bartender. An experienced bartender can explain the ingredients of signature cocktails, wines, beers, and refreshing beverages.

The fourth day of training should focus on the POS system. The training server should take notes on all orders and enter them into the POS system while the experienced server observes. It helps you master the POS system faster.

On the last day of training, a new server should begin waiting tables and be monitored by an experienced server.

I think these steps are followed by a training program. The new server is ready to go without any overloads.
