Being A New Hire

I just started working for Aldi Grocery. I noticed the attitudes of my co-workers and they all seem very stressed out, unhappy and never smile. Could that be a sign of what’s yet to come?

Supportive Housing Manager/Housing First Manager

Well they do go thru your entire adult criminal history, but employers aren’t supposed to consider any applicants guilty charges that were more than 7-10 years ago, (depending on what you do and where you work) and also to have nothing showing as of lately. BUT!! As I mentioned, they will go thru an applicants entire adult criminal background to make sure that any of the charges that an applicant has, whether they were 25-100 years ago, they still need to make sure that the long time ago crimes the applicants are found guilty of, would not cause concern for the company to be worried for the employees, the customer, and themselves’ safety. Also, they want to make sure the guilty charges are not for reasons to make them think you could be a liability for a law suit, or them losing substantial revenue.

Good luck, Tiffany. I know you are trying to make moves to better yourself and your life, and nothing worse when something from your past, that being 20+ years ago, still bites you in the mf ass. You seem like you’ve got pretty far in the career already, and even with your said felony. Stay positive girl. Don’t even think that an old charge is going ruin this opportunity for you. Don’t even put that thought out into the universe and stay happy/positive. Keep thinking to yourself how you do have and how excited you will be to start this new chapter in your life. KEEP US POSTED!! You got this doll!!

College Athlete

I went in for an interview at Goodwill and I was not even in the lady's office for more than 3 minutes. She asked me my availability and I said I could work 5 days out of the week but I am a college athlete. Her response was "Oh." I said yeah I might need an occasional day off for my trip to Lansing for soccer..she then said that me being a college athlete was an issue and I should not expect a call to come in for another interview. I went to an interview 3 hours later where me being a college athlete was not an issue for them and offered me the job.

I usually try to connect with my new co-workers, whether it is over lunch or a cup of coffee! To show the team that I am a team player, that I can communicate effectively and that I'm not afraid to share my ideas, and that I am happy about joining the team. I feel that by doing these things, it allows me to become more comfortable with being at a new company and it helps me adjust to the expectations of my role. And Drink Lots of Coffee!!! :)

Starting a new job can be very stressful. You are trying to perform a new task in a new environment and fit in with new people. Also, you want to stand out and shine to your boss. So how do you calm your nerves and keep from getting too nervous?

  1. Breathe, breathe, breathe. Inhale taking long deep breaths to relax.
  2. Be confident in your skills. You already got the job, so someone already had confidence in you.
  3. Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember that everyone understands what it's like to start something new. We have all sat in that seat before.

Never give up, even when it’s tough

Hey guys, I landed an awesome Jr graphic designer position recently. This past year has been one upset over another with work. I was doing very well, picking it up quickly but unfortunately the person I was replacing decided not to retire yet. So.., here I am again waiting in the bread line.

My point is this, NEVER GIVE UP! Aim high, and continue searching. I’m not in a very happy mood, feelings of doubt, negativity are trying to pull me down. We are far beyond what we see in ourselves, so please, never give up the good fight, if that voice says “your not worth a damn thing!” “You will always fail” Then challenge it, prove it wrong.
