Felon friendly industry?

Please join the Fair Chance to Succeed group to share your advice.

My brother just got out of prison last month. He feels disconnected with the world and not sure where to start. I've done some research about 2nd chance friendly jobs like fast food and trucking. What other careers that I can recommend him to explore? And any advice on how we can support him as family members?

@Abner Williams shared a great advice of great pay off for Asphalt work if you're looking for a viable job option. Thanks so much for sharing your experience!

We'd like to share these most popular manual labor jobs and career paths where you can find the skills, pays and the companies that are hiring for these jobs. If you're also considering getting professional licenses for certain careers, I also want to share this helpful resource to explore license and certificates when you have a felony record.

Getting licensed after prison

Join Fair Chance job search group to share your input!

Heard this story in the morning radio about Noel Barrientos who became a realtor after prison. It was definitely an uphill battle trying to start a career while he was on parole. But he never gave up and took the real estate license test twice to get approved by the board.

Employment rates among formerly incarcerated people range from 40 to 64 percent in the year following their release from prison, compared with an average rate above 70 percent among the general population.

Is there any careers that you've heard people have succeeded with a fair chance? What would you like to explore?

Teacher jobs

Just this last week I had an opportunity to "eavesdrop" on an exit interview of a teacher at my private school place of employment. Private schools are absolutely bleeding their best teachers to higher paying public school positions. This teacher I have known for more than 2 years, and he was heartbroken to leave, but was forced through circumstances to seek higher pay. My advice to teachers interviewing private school potential employment is to be frank, candid and transparent--yes, this is not the highest paying position I am considering, but I am seeking fulfillment that the independence of private school teaching can provide, and how can we mutually fulfill our inner needs for "soul" fulfillment? Together. Something too elusive in the public sector domain of the education field. #careerdiscovery #jobsearch #education #workfromhome

Would you prefer to work in a small restaurant/bar or a large one?

When you work in a small restaurant, you have a lot of responsibilities. For example, working in a small bar as a bartender adds more responsibilities absent from the manager.

When you work in a **large restaurant/bar, ** multiple managers can help to run shifts smoothly. Restaurant worker doesn't have to be responsible manager or have other responsibilities.

What would you prefer to work in a small/large restaurant?

I think people quit good jobs because

They're not happy with their job, and they can't advance within the company

It won't. Fast food jobs are low-level jobs that don't require much effort. What type of work do you envision for yourself? Google the job requirements and start learning whatever is needed to acquire it.
