I have been working with computer technology/networking/security since I was in high school. This makes it around 25-30 years. When I was a teenager we had computers at home. I'm my family's IT and tech support for network, mobile devices, Internet of Things and other computer related issues. Every job I've worked at while a Graphic Designer I've been that companies IT department also using my skills and knowledge to keep computers and peripherals updated/troubleshooted. I have recently completed my CompTIA A+ (Core 1 and Core 2) certification and am looking for entry level IT Help Desk jobs that I feel I'm overqualified for but think it is the best/only way for me to take my career in this direction. I'm not getting any responses besides rejection emails and wonder what I need to do to get interviews to get in the door and then move my way up as I prove my worth. #jobsearch #workfromhome #advice #interview #helpdesk #it #troubleshooting #computers #security #networks
Yours is a great foundation. Better if you have skill on networks and server managment (plan earning your CompTIA Network+). Computers don't go solo anymore, they're intermeshed with the Internet and everything you wish to connect to. Nevertheless, apply now; don't be shy. They'll train you on the job and you will begin to develop networks skills.
Oh, if you're in a military town or there's a federal building nearby, become a US citizen if you haven't yet, and earn your CompTIA Security+. Enterprise Service Desk Specialist positions pay very well.

What I love about being in IT is the ability to assist my customers with their computer issues. I started in the field of IT late in life; my passion is with helping customers, rather than being an IT Administrator. While I love learning as I go, practicing what I have learnt in school; I've not had the opportunities to do so, which limits my IT career to the Service Desk/Help Desk.
Excellent Support Analyst that can enhance your company's IT team.
where to look for entry level helpdesk/technician jobs
My son told me that Microsoft is going to end their "certification" programs by the end of June. I'll have to confirm that, though. For a help desk specialist, you'll need a decent background in troubleshooting hardware, software and be able to use remote apps to check out what's going on on a customer's PC.
It is a hard field to break into, unless you're willing to work for small amounts of money. A lot of IT help desks have been outsourced to India and other countries. The ones that are still around don't pay as much as they once did.
There are jobs out there that help desk people work from home. My last job their help desk people worked from home. That was a real estate title company. I worked from home half the time as an escrow closer.
