IBM has launched a "New Collar" Professional Certificate program on Coursera as a response to their identified skills gap.
According to their site:
"New collar jobs and training initiatives address the tech industry’s skills gap and create multiple pathways for people to land these jobs.
These aren’t “blue collar” or “white collar” jobs, they’re...“new collar” roles in technology that prioritize skills and capabilities over degrees or having a traditional career path. What matters most in these roles is having the right mix of skills and a commitment to lifelong learning."
These roles are in some of the technology's fastest growing fields. Learn more abut IBM's New Collar Professional Certificates.

I work at Dollar Tree and have been asking to process freight for about a year. I have watched the manager put people ahead of me, hire family members which is against policy rules and push them ahead of me. I finally was allowed to do freight only to have it jerked out from underneath me with the excuse that we are over on hours. So I get cut in hours. Meanwhile, when I should have been able to work, she gives the hours to a cashier to do my job. I can't talk to the dm. She says he has to side with her. I don't know what I did to her to make her cut my hours. She's the one who messed up the hours but I'm being punished for it. She's choosing favorites and that's also against policy rules. I don't know how to handle this but I'm tired of being the only that gets cut. If corporate knew half of what goes on at the store, she would be out of a job. But she'll deny everything and bat her eyes at the dm to get him to believe her. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to handle this without getting anyone in trouble?
I am trying to learn more about Amazon culture. When I read their job descriptions I find a disconnect between my current experience and where I want to go and I'm not sure how to proceed. I was hoping to get some advice from current/former employees.
I have worked in technical support for another tech giant and was very successful. I had high customer service marks and a high issue resolution metric. I was also trained as a team leader and obtained Senior status while employed with them. However, because I worked remote instead of in an office I found it difficult to cross the line from customer support into a more technical role and the only growth path was into leadership and management. I am not opposed to taking on a leadership role, but I still have lots of technical growth I would like to accomplish before moving into leadership. I left seeking opportunities to grow my technical knowledge. I consistently performed in the top 1% of over 30k employees.
I review a lot of remote positions available at Amazon specifically targeting those that are primarily remote. I am always excited about the direction Amazon is heading and have started working to become AWS Certified and to eventually move into the realm of machine learning and IoT technologies. However, the positions I find I do not have the expertise yet in these areas, but would love to get my foot in the proverbial door and grow with the company.
All that said, am I better off obtaining the skills outside and then applying or is the culture at Amazon such that applying for a role that I currently do satisfy the criteria will provide the flexibility to change roles as I expand my skill set in the Amazon domain?
I started a job as a salad bar person at A restaraunt I feel like I should be getting trained for other areas of the place but the excuse always comes up "you aren't working fast enough yet for us to train you in other spots" garden bar seems like the only super fast paced position of the restaraunt because guests go up and just devour everything even on busy nights but busy nights it is generally a 2 person job being done by one person. Along with prepareing the set up for the next day i feel like i have gotten a bit faster since last month and i do want to learn to do something else because once i decide to have a child i won't be able to lift too much and those trays can get heavy. I would love for them to teach me other departments like hosting or expo I feel like I am the only Salad bar person who has not progressed and learned new stuff at all since I started in May and the others were on garden bar for 2 or 3 weeks and were immediately trained for other areas I feel as though I'm being cheated. And I work my ass off every day I go in.
It seems like nowadays you absolutely need a degree in order to advance in a career field so my question is anyone know of any accredited programs that aren't too long and aren't too expensive in administration, clerical, or business so that I can land a higher-paying job to support my family and I... my sister says there's some online courses and even one that you can take that last the whole day in person and afterwards you take a test and are certified admin something or other. Has anyone else heard about this? I'm so tired of searching and changing jobs and jumping around for low paying temporary positions!
I've been working since I was in high school and most of the jobs I worked were dead end. Can someone help me with finding a good job to where I can help my family??
Looking to transition my career into the Ui/Ux designer field, aided with the years of graphic and visual design this area will provide me with the edge to continue advancing my career in a company that has plenty of room for growth.
