Atlanta leisure & hospitality workers punished by new GA Voting Law

The new voting law in Georgia just cost thousands of leisure and hospitality workers a lot of money this summer as Major League Baseball just announced that they're pulling this year's All-Star game out of Atlanta over the new law.

What happens when politicians enact laws that businesses disagree with and take their money elsewhere? Does it change anything other than punishing workers in the states with these laws?

How long is your ideal work day?

I've been wondering what you all think... We all know that a standard full-time work day should last about 8 hours. But if you had the power to set your own hours for the day, how many hours would YOU work?

Would you get work a shorter day so you can get all your tasksdone quickly and move on to other things or would you spread your work out through the day so you can pace out your work and take more frequent breaks?

Either way, let me know below!

WHERE IS YOUR AGENDA? Write it down. [IBYC]

I'm telling you the truth...(MUST READ)

Whatever you want to accomplish in life, your best efforts begin when you write it down and...

  1. Plan your work.
  2. Work your plan.
  3. Monitor your activities.
  4. Evaluate your progress.
  5. Reinforce your agenda.

If you want to succeed, be motivated and inspired to use an agenda.

Learn this principle, watch life change, then everything else will fall-in-place.

Let's develop that agenda.

I Believe You Can..!

This happens to me all the time, and although I may not be good at it, I have found it is best to do nothing. If you trying to right the wrong, you just come off as petty and the one likely lying. I just wait until they need fixes or changes that only I can do. Then they all figure it out on their own. If you want to get sneaky, you could ask for a discussion on some part of the project, as to if the right choices were made, and what the other options were. Then the person faking it will be again obvious, because they won't have a valid opinion.

I would let them take the credit to not embarrass them, but I would address the co worker in private about it.

SOMETHING YOU NEED TO KNOW..! Change Your Thinking. [IBYC]

I'm telling you the truth...(MUST READ w/o FAIL)

People fail everyday faster than a calculator can count. Why? Because they don't realize certain things. Don't be next.

Your thinking impacts your life. Therefore,

  1. Try to change your thinking, a little-bit at a time.
  2. Don't take a "leap of faith" like many have said.
  3. Take small steps of faith in a new analyzed direction.
  4. Your change will come ONLY if you try.

If you're thinking negatively 90% of the time, then, things will leave you faster than a turbo engine boat.

Learn this principle, watch life change, then, everything else will fall-in-place.

I Believe You Can...!

How to start a new job during the pandemic?

Starting a new job is always a challenging experience! Imagine how it can be if the change occurs during the global coronavirus pandemic!

So let me tell you about my own experience.

I was very stressed about starting a new job, although within the same Organization. The fact that the change occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the stress and anxiety. The move was a drastic change in my life: new job, now role, new environment, new country and new colleagues. A whole set of challenges that I was expecting to be insurmountable…

I have decided to approach the change with the right mindset and the appropriate attitude to adapt to a new work environment while keeping in mind my career goals in order to successfully thrive in my new position.

This is how I proceeded to make the transition:

  • I found a mentor: I have decided that, the best way to adapt easily to a new environment is to learn from a colleague whom I know and who has been there for not too long. I needed tips and advice as a new comer. New experiences are easier when you can relate to person who had a similar experience. Having a go-to person to ask questions, get advice from and build good relationship with will make all the difference in the beginning. This colleague was instrumental in helping me navigate the new environment.

  • I connected with the new colleagues and established a network: It is not easy to join a new team in normal circumstances. It is even more difficult when it is a virtual team. Starting a new assignment while teleworking is a challenge. It is hard to develop a network and meet everyone on the team remotely. I have therefore decided to take the extra time to reach out to my teammates and introduce myself. I also took the time to introduce myself to those co-workers who are not part of my team. I reach out to them by email and video chat to have a better understanding of what they do and their roles and experiences. It is important to make you known by the new colleagues and to make the right impression from the beginning.

  • I learn the “culture” of the office: When starting a new position, not only are you are taking a new job, a new role and new responsibilities, but you also have to learn something less tangible: the office’s culture. How formal or casual is the work environment? How people interact? What are the overall goals? What do they value? To ensure having the appropriate understanding of the office’s culture, I have asked new colleagues about their perception of the office’s culture when introducing myself.

  • I showed availability and readiness to support: I have been working in support functions throughout my professional career. I know how much people appreciate having someone ready and available to support them. In my introductory calls and first interactions with my new colleagues, I took an extra moment to ask them about their daily responsibilities and how I you can help and support them through their role. I had some very positive responses and this allowed me to establish the appropriate collaborative approach that would ease interactions with my new colleagues.

  • I asked questions: As I was starting a new job in a new environment, I had an endless amount of questions. I have decided not to be afraid to ask them. However, I prioritized what was necessary to know from the beginning and kept a list of non-essential questions for later.

  • I put in place the new “routine”: Under normal circumstances, when starting a new job in a normal environment, the stress dissipates as you build a routine and understand your day-to-day activities. TheCOVID-19 teleworking requirements made it more challenging and time consuming to create a new daily routine. I had to organize my daily schedules to adapt to this new normal. Teleworking gave me the possibility to organize myself differently. The working days become longer but I was able to adapt them to my own pace. This allowed me to feel more in control and feel assimilated to my new job.

Starting a new job is always an incredible experience and often a challenge. This is especially true in times of change and uncertainty like the COVID-19 pandemic, when you are not able to interact with your colleagues and managers in person for months. Approaching it the right way makes all the difference. Do not be afraid to speak up, ask questions and make an impression. With the right mindset and strategies in place, it can become one of the most rewarding experiences of your career.
