Aviation

I have 20 years experience in the aviation field. Mainly as a mechanic, but a wide variety, from composites to interiors, sheetmetal to customer service. I'm still in great shape and healthy but having trouble getting a job after they figure out my age is 60. All I really know is aircraft. What other areas in Aviation can I try for that won't have an issue with my age. I'm not ready to retire yet. #jobsearch #ageism

Sometimes taking a chance with experienced older people can work out . Give us a chance.

It’s very hard to get a job and there’s thousands of jobs not being filled. I need a job that will overlook age with experience and excellent work ethics. Take a chance and get more than expected. #ageism

am I not getting job offerings because of my age?

on all job offerings they ask either your date of birth or what year you graduated from high school. I thought it was illegal to ask for age. I feel like I am being discriminated against because of my age. #ageism

It is illegal for employers to discriminate based on age. If you suspect this is happening to you, you can discreetly inquire during the interview process. Remember to highlight your skills and experience on your resume. Consider using job search providers like Jobcase, LinkedIn, and Indeed to explore opportunities. Good luck! #ageism

Maintenance mechanic

Well if thats truly the case you are applying at the wrong places. Those places want young people they can mold, shape and bend into production machines. They could care less about you. Is that you reslly want. Money is their bottom line. A old school company who just wants your dependability and ability to get the job done. Is much easier to get and more suitable for people of our age. Not as much money but if that is a issue now your in trouble no matter what.

Maintenance mechanic

Well you said it all. Overqualified to them means you will be too expensive and thays usually the bottom line in corporate. Who have never even worked in the field. In my position I am so far ahead of the maintenance skill level coming in. When applying I just figure out what Im willing to except in pay. The key is getting in the door. If you really know your stuff you will and dont go into it with a attitude because this younger generation will rebel against you because they are intimidated of you. So take it easy we dont have to prove ourselves anymore instead fall into the role of mentor. You will draw them in like fly. The management will see their value in you and there you are. I prefer that now to the fast pace extremely demanding, higher paying positions Im qualified to have. Those are for the young folks. Enjoy the fact that you dont have to be everything to all people any more to stay on top.
