What’s one career risk you’re glad you took—or one you still want to take?

One of the career risks I’m proud to have taken is affirming that I’m ready to face any challenge in my field of study. I enjoy taking on new challenges, and I prepare myself—especially in areas where I’m not yet an expert, like my second language, English.
Even though I don’t consider myself fully fluent yet, I work hard every day to improve my communication by using every tool available to express myself effectively. Taking this risk has helped me grow professionally and stay confident in new environments.

I left an aggressively racist design firm in Troy. The supervisor later became a supervisor for one of the Big 3, which led to their particular failures, which I saw clearly from the outside, as the government official in charge.

I once left a job that was not respectful of me due to an extremely hostile work environment. At the time I felt defeated & afraid to leave a job without another job prospect. I was also afraid that since I had been with the employer so long my previous references would be frowned upon due to the age of those references. I left nonetheless, remained optimistic & within the month was able to find a much better job that paid me well above the starting wage because of how much industry experience I had from the previous employer. From this experience I learned never to tolerate abuse on a job & to have faith in myself & my abilities.
