Remaining positive during job searching can be tough, but it’s important being optimistic so we can keep pushing forward. I know with me, if I allow myself to get into that self-pity mode, I make it nearly impossible for myself to move forward. It’s a very dangerous place for me to be.

When I get down, sometimes it takes me a bit before I even notice it. It’s then that I can think of a time when it was even worse and I made it through that time of struggle. So I know if I made it through even tougher times, I can make it through my current struggle too. Being without income can be a very humiliating experience.

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hear back from employers right away, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Remember, finding a job is a full-time job.

If you’re an ex-offender who has successfully found a job, can you share your tips and experiences in the comments below and help inspire the rest of us who may be struggling to find work? Maybe we can support and uplift one another as we work to build brighter futures for ourselves, our families, and our communities… #positive #forward #possible

How many jellybeans will fit in a suitcase?

Interview assessment questions are tests used by employers to help identify candidates who will be the best fit for their companies. Many hiring managers and job search sites use pre-employment tests to know whether the candidates' personality, knowledge, work style and skills fit the open position or the company's culture.

Questions on the assessment tests serve several purposes. Employers want to know about your work ethic, sense of personal responsibility and how you relate to coworkers and management in addition to your work skills, problem solving strategies and knowledge. The questions are often not in categorical order and many will seem to appear more than once in a test. You want to thoroughly read each question to be sure you understand its purpose and context.

While most assessment tests are conducted during the pre- interview process, some employers will choose specific questions to ask you in person. I once had a recruiter ask me "how many peanuts can fit in a pillowcase?" After pondering the question for a moment I asked clarifying questions such as, "What size is the pillowcase? Are you referring to foam or real peanuts? Are the peanuts in shell? Are all of the shells intact? Are they regular or jumbo sized? Are we filling the pillowcase to the open top? Is there anything else in the pillowcase? Are we measuring by the number of peanuts or the volume?" He was evaluating my critical thinking, problem solving abilities with this question. He was impressed with my problem solving strategy and never actually required an answer. Thank goodness!!

It's a good idea to research some of the common assessment test questions online. There are a number of different tests available and some examples of how to answer them.

What are some of the assessment questions you've been asked when applying for a position? Share your tips and experience!

@Mohamed Hajith, if you reside outside of the United States but are looking to work or immigrate here you must contact your Embassy, Consulate or Emirates Agency for information about immigration or a work visa to work in the US. If you are a student, consult with your campus counseling office to ask about student international work/intern visas. Where are you located?
