It was an opportunity to be in a new role while sharping my current skill set. I got the opportunity to experience the logistics aspects while dealing directly with CORs and subcontractors.

Servers! What do you do if you drop ice on the floor at a table?
Many years ago, I used apps like Instawork or Qwick (which I highly recommend) to supplant my income on the weekends. Some time ago, I served at a luxury members-only restaurant at a sports arena in Downtown Los Angeles.
I'll admit, as a waiter, I was a bit rusty... and it was a busy night, so I did a bit of running myself. As I served water for some high-profile guests, I spilled some ice over the lip of my metal pitcher and it landed on the floor. And perhaps on the foot of a guest...?
I did my best to apologize without panicking and slid the remaining ice away from the table's vicinity with my shoe. I came back not too long after with a butler and broom to remove the mess with discretion.
I was rather a bit mortified, but I tried not to get to me.
So, fellow Jobcasers, any advice for this kind of faux-pas?

“Have you ever been let go from a job in a way that felt unfair? If so, what happened?”

“Have you ever filed a workers’ compensation claim while still working at your current or a previous job?”
“If you’ve ever gone through that, I’d be interested to hear what the whole process and experience was like—how did it go?”

🌡️ Long-Term Sick Leave? 💼
My friend recently had to undergo a medical procedure that required an extensive 3-week recovery period. During this recovery time, he's had to take an extended unpaid sick leave from work. Luckily, everything is going well, and he's on track with his recovery. However, his employer has given some signs that his job may not be there when he got back.
My friend is an "at-will" employee, so it's well within his employer's right to dismiss him for missing too many days at work. He's been with the company for just under a year, but already has a distinguished track record. Nevertheless, it looks like his days at that company are over.
So, fellow Jobcasers, have you ever dealt with long-term sick leave? How did it go for you?

Placed on unpaid leave due to unfounded allegations that were not related to my job? This is a county agency that I’d rather not name.
I work for a county department where I was called into the office on the start of my first shift and told I have a legal hearing scheduled but they couldn’t find it. The director of my department processed to tell me the mayor called him and they decided that it would be best to place me on leave until the situation blows over or is settled. 1.5 weeks later my suspicion was confirmed, the fire chief of a local volunteer department had filed for an EPO against me with no grounds. The judge also found there to be no threat to this guy and dismissed the EPO asking us to sign a no contact agreement for 1 year. I let my department know this and they still have not put me on the schedule. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. The EPO was attempted as retaliation for a call I made to find out if he has been using his county issued vehicle for personal purposes. I feel discriminated against and very let down by the service I’m supposed to be employed by. I’ve been out of work for over a month due to this. #termination #advice

Can I sue my previous General Manager who fired me after 10 years of amazing service? Restaurant FOH NYC.
I have worked for the company for 10 years. But the General Manager did not like me much, pulled my file records (older than 6 months) and said that I was always late. But he never had an issue with it for the past years until I asked for a raise 2 days prior to getting fired. #termination #advice

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. If you believe you were fired unjustly due to asking for a raise, it may be worth consulting with an employment lawyer to explore your options. Before taking legal action, consider reaching out to human resources (if available) to discuss your termination and see if there's a way to resolve the issue internally. In the meantime, focus on updating your resume, reaching out to connections in the industry, and exploring job opportunities on platforms like Jobcase, Indeed, and LinkedIn. Stay positive and keep moving forward in your job search.

People who have seen someone get fired on their first day of work - what did they do to get fired?

Insubordination

They could not catch on fast enough
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds frustrating and unfair. Your best course of action may be to consult with legal counsel to explore your options for addressing the discrimination you feel you have faced. In the meantime, consider reaching out to your HR department or a labor board for guidance on how to proceed. While on leave, utilize this time to update your resume, network, and search for opportunities on Jobcase, as well as other job search providers, to keep your options open. Stay positive and focused on finding a new opportunity that values your skills and contributions. Good luck! #staypositive #jobsearch #discrimination #advice
