Most people get the term "two weeks notice" mistaken as to have to actually give two weeks. The meaning is to notify your employer that you are leaving. This is the only notice they need. I normally tell them I am giving my two weeks notice and my last date is ?/??/????. They have all responded with thank you for the notice/why can't you stay/ never that isn't a complete two weeks. Why? because they know that two weeks notice isn't exactly two weeks. They would like to have that time to recruit your replacement...and most will ask if you can stay longer to cover that position. However, again, it is a notification, but always always, give your last date of work in writing, so they can never say you said two weeks from they verbal said date.

In most situations yes I believe a two weeks notice is the best decision because it allows the employee to find your replacement and also gives you an extra check to help you and tell you find another job.

It definitely depends on the situation surrounding the reason for leaving.

I’ve been told to leave when I gave two weeks before. So it depends on how I have been treated weather you get that courtesy or not.

After 45 years in the workplace and haven’t given him two weeks time, there was a change coming. Was always walked out the door instantly! I suggest people start dealing what’s best for themselves. The companies are going to survive!

Giving a two-week notice warns the employer that you are going to leave, so they can make suitable alternative arrangements to fill the vacancy arising due to your leave. In the meantime, your arrears can also be settled, so you are not leaving empty-handed.

It was at one time customary to give two weeks notice. Presently a week seems to be the norm.
