Stay Strong!! So, who’s hands aren’t tied that will help is my question!

I’ve been waiting since March with zero response. Have only had 1 lady from Michigan UIA that tried to help me. She said that their hands are tied. So, who’s hands aren’t tied that will help is my question! Everyone around me was paid within a week or so. Know of one person that they paid then said he owed $11,000 back cuz his previous employer denied him. I have read about this happening to many people. That totally confuses me. They approve and authorize that you are eligible for collecting, and all of the sudden out of nowhere your pay comes to a screeching halt and they says.... “HEY! You owe me now! Pay all the $ back!!” It makes you scared to receive the money and stressed that they’ll ask for it back. Makes no sense!! People are restricted restricted restricted per state as it is. Not to mention, I’m no longer a Spring Chicken! The older you are the harder it is to get a job! I truly believe that this waiting game is like playing “Chicken” . These are extremely hard times and not having 2 nickels together makes it depressing. What does depression bring? Death to some. Christmas makes for a depressing time for some as it is. Then not receiving your unemployment and still waiting “8” months later could really push them over the edge! Can’t win for losing! Ugh Stay strong and God Bless!! #benefits #michigan #coronavirus

Hi @Rebecca Weiderman , your plight and current circumstances are heartfelt! Rest assured, you are not alone. UI benefit payment mismanagement is leading to a debt recovery crisis. I can't begin to tell you how many other members have been expressing the same stressful issues after receiving UI claims benefits only to find out they will have to pay back those funds.

We are facing unprecedented times which means we need to stick together and continue to find a way to support each other. I haven't been able to find a quick solution strategy on how to successfully address the overpayment issue. Most UI agencies allow for claimants to request 'fact-finding interviews' with a UI representative to address individual claim issues. Check your state UI website for more information on these interview request and file a request for a meeting as soon as possible.

The holiday season can be very stressful. Anxiety, frustration and depression are a common cause of undue stress (physically, mentally and spiritually). Please make sure you have enough family, friend and local support services to assist you during this season in the case you are unable to resolve your UI claim situation. The https://www.211.org help hotline is an excellent resource to connect with local support services. We are also here whenever you need us.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience and story with the community this week. You words will not go unnoticed.

Stay Safe & Encouraged, We are Rooting For You :-)
