#ScamDissection #Scam Email number twwwwwwwo: This one is arguably the hardest one I've come across.

There isn't a picture of a person's face, but there is a picture there. No gramatical errors, has first and last name both in the email and the salutations, not asking me to download anything, the website linked actually has webinar in it and looks legitimate...interviews will be over zoom, has the disclaimer at the end...

Totally legit right?

Wrong.

The email #domainname ends with "Applytojob.com" which no company in their right mind would use.

The webinar link may very well be legitimate - but I'm not going to click on it until the company #verifies the employee works there (she does not). Sarah Garcia seems like a #legitimate name and isn't foreign (not that all foreign names are fraud!!! It's just a trend I've seen in scams and one that I keep an eye out for).

There's no telephone number - not a deal breaker but most #professionals have them.

No department name but a title is there.

The biggest flag in this case is the domain name. The company uses AILLife.com and this simply doesn't match.

If you believe you have been the #victim of a #fraud or have been contacted by a fraudulant party, please remember to report it to ReportFraud.ftc.gov/#/ and the company that is being victimized.

Since we're under the conversation title UNEMPLOYMENT... I DO believe we should really be able to look for work and fund a job, however circumstances change and so do the employers! But we'll leave that for a separate post. I just want to make a comment stating that in my state of NV the unemployment office hire-ups are in on either identity theft or withholding funds in order to gain interest. I do/did qualify for UI benefits, however this last cut off on Sept 4th was the end of the "federal" portion and i was still entitled to my regular UI as I've worked for years. Thank God I screenshot all my filings because when I went back in to check and see why I hadn't been paid, all the numbers and dates had been moved and/or adjusted. I'm going on week 4 without payment. Enough complaining got me to this partial wanna be resolution. "Our apologies but the system will be going through an update this Saturday and try to rectify any outstanding UI issues". Then I was transfered to a "supervisor that let me know that if I don't get it, that's my problem she has other stuffs to do" Obviously her English was bad but her attitude was worse. NV DETR is absolutely no help even on the rare chance they do answer.. its like trying to find the F$#@in Wizard of Oz... Have anyone of you realized that every order, extention or act has been done over a holiday weekend buying the Feds and States alike an extra day in interest for the funding yet they'll pull your benefits even with money remaining in your account? Last 3 related updates took place 12/27/20, 3/27/21 & 09/04/21. These fell on Christmas, Easter and Labor Day weekend. But they can't fix my payments. You guys do the math on interest of 7 trillion per day? Yeah that part...fix my S#@t already ,I have kids to raise. Nope they would like you to appeal...0 fux given by my state

Yesterday I finally received my FIRST piece of mail regarding my account. Until now, all mail had been sent to the fraudulent address. It stated that I began my claim back in March... again, I still had a job in March! Then this morning I got an email from the Colorado division of Labor stating there was new info in my account! WTH??? COLORADO?! Now what?!

Ok, I quit my job yesterday morning because management have big mouths and told other employee's that they were going to fire me on Friday morning. I heard the gossip on Thursday so on Friday morning before going into work I texted my boss to let her know that I quit. But the reason behind all of this is because that doctor's office knows that they are doing fraud. I don't agree what they are doing. All management knows what they are doing to patient's and insurance company's is fraud. That's the reason I quit and that's the reason they wanted to fire me. The main doctor got upset because I told another doctor in the group the true about the fraud. So he told the billing and collections department that I had no business telling anyone about what I think I know. Please help!!!!

Received an email stating something similar to "RESUME APPROVED" , and asking you to interview on Google Hangouts ? Take a minute and look at the email itself. Is it from a legitimate company email, or is it a Gmail account? That's red flag number 1.

This is a rather elaborate version of the check fraud scam, using mostly legitimate company names, with possibly an extra "-" or misspelling. A Google search will undoubtedly find the company name, as will a check on GlassDoor.com; however checking with the company will find that they don't hire remote help, they don't intend to open an office in your city, or that the person "hiring" you doesn't work there, or if the person exists at the company, they have no knowledge of the position you were offered. Red flag number 2.

How this is supposed to work is that you will engage in an "interview" on Google Hangouts, after which you will be told that you have been hired for an hourly rate for training, and then a larger amount for your "regular" wages. You will then be emailed supporting documentation, such as an offer letter and possibly direct deposit paperwork. In addition, you will be told that you need to purchase "office supplies" such as a laptop, printer, software, etc, however these things can only be purchased from their "approved" vendor. Red flag number 3 However, lucky for you, they will be sending you a large cashier's check to cover these expenses; upon receipt, you are to deposit the check in your personal account, and you are to keep X$ as your signing bonus, and then send the rest via wire to the vendor for your supplies.

In addition, you may be told that you need to buy I-Tunes cards so that the codes on the cards can be used to "unlock" their proprietary software.

None of this is true. They are after your bank information with the direct deposit form, then they are trying to have you deposit a counterfeit cashiers check in your bank account. The check may not come back immediately as a fake, however trust, it will. When the check bounces, you are then held legally responsible for the amount deposited, despite it being a fake check.

If by some misfortune, you have gotten to the check stage of this scam, take a moment and call the bank that the check is drawn on prior to depositing. Chances are that conveniently, there won't be a branch in your state. However, a quick check on the internet will provide a toll-free number for that bank's customer service.

Remember: a legitimate company will not be using a free email service such as Gmail, Hotmail, or similar. They will be using their own proprietary domain, such as USBank.com (used only as an example). In addition, a legitimate company will not be sending you a check for you to buy supplies "exclusively from their preferred vendor", or I-Tunes cards to "unlock" proprietary software. No legitimate company will ask for I-Tunes codes to unlock software, either.

Please take a few minutes to report this to the following authorities: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/Company#crnt , and https://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx

I hope I've managed to get this out in time for you to not be scammed.

If, unfortunately, you've already been taken, please contact the FTC and IC3, along with your local law enforcement.
