The best time...
This is my favorite Chinese Proverb and oh-so-appropriate to post as we start this new year. We all are going to live longer and work longer than we ever expected. We all need to develop new skills, or find difference jobs or companies to maximize our own success. Looking backwards with regret on lack of preparation or action is not healthy. Taking action and moving forward is. If you don't have a high school degree, go get that GED now. If you see computer programmers making lots of $$ - go to free online resources and start to learn to code html language to start. Wish you had that trade thats always in demand - like electriician, plumber, hair-stylist, etc. -find a reputable trade school and start now.
There is no better time than now. Don't worry about the past - your future is BRIGHT (so long as you take control of it).

You Can Reach Your Dreams
I just wanted to throw this out there for those who might be new to Jobcase or aren’t sure what to do here. The way I see it, this place is all about reaching your dreams. That’s doesn’t mean just finding a job, that means becoming the best “you” that you can possibly be. That’s what we are all helping each other towards. That’s why I still come here even though I have a job. There is so much wisdom, advice, and encouragement in this community!
If we all help each other, we will all end up in a better place. Share your story, offer a lending hand, and learn from others - trust me it will make a difference!
Don’t just find a job. Become who you were meant to be.
Communication skills are key!
This is a great little summary reminder of how important communication skills are for you to increase your earnings and your progression in your worklife! Doesn't matter what you do - being able to succinctly communicate well is key (and often takes practice). Find a Dale Carnegie speakers course, take some online writing courses, lots you can do these days to tighten up - but it will really pay off. Also - never email when you can call; never call when you can meet. Its always better to increase the human interaction to achieve success in whatever you are trying to accomplish in your communication!!

Getting ahead -- How do you get that promotion?
How should people turn jobs into careers? If you are currently employed, what are you doing to make sure that you have a 'bigger job' next year (either more money, more responsibility, different responsibility or whatever else your goals are).
In general, I am really interested in what other Jobcasers have to say about this - so I don't want to bias with my thoughts up front. But I will say that the first step is identifying what it is you want. If you don't articulate the goal to yourself then how will you get it?? This is a time in labor markets where you need to be your own Agent and take charge of your own career. Don't wait for someone in a corner office to chart your career path for you - you need to do it yourself.
