It’s always time to show some pride, but this month, in particular, reminds us of that.
I grew up in a very small town where I graduated with less than 80 students. Everyone knew your cousins, siblings, uncles/aunts, and parents. No places for secrets or not “fitting in."
My close friend confided in me one day after school in 10th grade that he was gay but scared to tell anyone else. He was afraid to be judged, bullied, or to have those he cared about look at him differently. I told him that if someone didn’t want to be apart of his life because he was gay then they were crazy.
The world is a tough enough place as is without the fear of judgment or rejection, so let’s support everyone's right to love who they wish and embrace who they are.
Here are a few ways to get started:
•Support the Equality Act to make discrimination illegal
•Shop at businesses that support LGBTQ equality •Make a donation to your favorite LGBTQ rights nonprofit
•Help put a stop to bullying
•Pick up the phone and reach out
