Salary negotiation: How high is too high when negotiating salary?

How much is too much negotiation salary?

You have two main objectives before you begin negotiating:

  • Understand why you are a valuable candidate for this job.
  • Determine the minimum salary you require to do this job.

You’ve probably heard that the key to negotiating is being willing to walk away. Your minimum salary requirement is how you pre-decide when you’re willing to walk away from this salary negotiation. This is also the single most important number you’ll use when negotiating your salary, and it’s your minimum metric for measuring success.

Here are several things you should consider as you determine the absolute minimum salary you’ll accept to do this job:

  • Your current salary
  • Your market value for this job
  • The amount you think you can get
  • What people in your target job at your target company are currently making
  • How badly do they need you? (0—10)
  • How badly do you need this job? (0—10)
  • When is your next merit increase at your current job?
  • When is your next bonus at your current job?

The nice thing about this list is that there’s value in just thinking about each item. I recommend that you write down your responses, but if you’re not up for that, you should at least take a little time to think about each item. Something may occur to you that will help you find some little bit of leverage you may have otherwise missed.

Let’s take each of these items one by one to understand their significance and how it helps you determine your minimum acceptable salary.

A good range for a counter is between 10% and 20% above their initial offer. On the low end, 10% is enough to make a counter worthwhile, but not enough to cause anyone any heartburn.

So how would you do that? A step-by-step method to determine the right counteroffer for your specific situation.

Quick poll:

A: Do you want to risk your chances with a company that is genuinely interested in your financial well-being?

B: You don't want to risk your chances with a company that is genuinely interested in your financial well-being?

FORM YOUR TEAM, FORGE YOUR WIN! [IBYC]

I'm telling you the truth...(Don't miss reading this.)

There's no doubt in anyone's mind that Jordan was great on the court, and practically unstoppable. However, Jordan knew one thing in the ultimate "Game of Life" was that...He couldn't win the game by himself.

So, what did he do? He "formed a team, [to] forge a win" and went on to become one of the Greatest of All-Time (GOAT), without question.

HOW CAN YOU WIN IN THE GAME OF LIFE?

  1. Form your team of (5-7) persons who wants to win.

  2. Decide what you all want to do collectively.

  3. Jot it down on a piece of paper as a simple draft and task.

  4. Schedule your ZOOM meeting for discussion and planning.

If you want to send me an invitation to the ZOOM meeting you can. The thing is, you have to get the ball off the floor and into the air, if you want to score and win in the game of life.

Like Jordan...that's how your form your team, [to] forge your win.

I Believe You Can...!

To land a job at #Hemet Unified School District (HUSD) I would make sure to...

be flexible in your expectations as a teacher. Teaching, as a job, is going through radical changes. Before your interview, make sure you read up on the district's historical background in educational successes and weaknesses. What kinds of programs does the school or district offer? What are they best known for? How do you see yourself fitting into this district?
Then, be aware of changes in the law, expectations of the school site principles in the school district and the expectations of district mentors. Once you are hired, follow their directions because they are seasoned professionals who have experience in the field you have applied for. Also, take time to meet with teachers, in and out of your subject area or grade level, and ask if you can go into their classrooms to observe teacher-student interactions and take notes of the class settings, discipline structure, educational expectations and outcomes. How do the different teachers address the educational standards of both the district and the state? How will you do the same? What kind of discipline and academic standards will you focus on? How do you think you would communicate your plans with both students and parents? Remember that education is not just about your classroom, but also school- and district-wide. How do you plan to be a team player? Lastly, Good Luck! # #wordsofadvice #motivation #inspiration #education

Believe in Yourself

Believing in your own abilities is the highest form of self-confidence.

Let’s adopt the mindset of these gorgeous birds.

Their trust and confidence is not on the branch but in themselves and their ability to fly should the branch break.

“The highest form of self-confidence is believing in your own ability to learn.” - Adam Grant

                               ♦️♦️♦️♦️♦️

Nothing builds self-confidence more than communicating assertively:

✔️ saying no to inconvenient or unreasonable requests ✔️ asking questions in meetings ✔️ paying compliments ✔️ accepting compliments gracefully ✔️ speaking up when treated unfairly ✔️ expressing ideas, opinions, suggestions publicly ✔️ never kicking yourself for what you wished you would have said
