College graduation and entry level jobs

Hi,

I am a recent college graduate in engineering. I wasn't able to secure an internship during my school days. I wasn't a pro active job seeker while in college but rather focused on maintaining the GPA. After graduation, I have started applying and it's been 5 months since then with no job offers. I have been told that the longer it is from the graduation, the lesser your demand is gonna be. Is it true? I am getting worried and i think this gonna affect my job application procedure as I am hearing mixed opinions. I hope someone experienced could give me an answer. Thanks!

Hi Elias: Thanks for posting to Jobcase! You're definitely in a high-demand field, so keep your head up about your job search. Have you tried going back to your school to see if they have career resources that can help? A lot of schools have special relationships with employers, so it could be useful to see where you might have a better chance of landing an interview.

People dont listen

Why is it that when you vent about something that is frustrating to you... such as job searching,,, I 've been unemployed for 14 months now,, 8th time around in 14 years,, so I am not NEW to job searching... I've gone on 30 interviews this past time-- well 15 companies that each one led to a 2/3 or 4th interview on all of them, yet here I am still out here. I've tried applying to jobs that are, um,, well beneath my pay grade, XYZ jobs, or ABC jobs..... as I'm willing to take a pay cut just to get work,, but I'm told I am overqualified for those jobs.... why?... because hiring companies take a look at my Resume, or my past skills in the interview & go,,,, um,, you can get a 6 figure job, why are you slumming down here in the lower 5 digit jobs?- they think I will continue looking for the 6 figure & bolt on them when one comes along & so they pass on me..... so I vent my frustration to my family/friends who then way to me,,, well have you tried applying to XYZ jobs? I'm thinking,, did I NOT just tell you that I HAD?.. then they say-- well maybe you should look for jobs that are far below you pay grade.... UM,, I just told you that I HAVE done that!..... . so I say yes I have I just told you that I did,, then they accuse me of only applying for jobs that are in my field.... so I go.. so you do not believe me when I have told you I have applied to lower paid jobs?.... they assume that I am being offered these jobs and that I am turning them down because I think I deserve the big money...... so I tell them,, I have not been offered any job,, & even if they would offer at a lower rate I would take it..... they replied-- so why havent you?..... I go,, why havent I what?....... (them) taken a lesser paid job.............OMG--- I just told you that I have not been offered a lower paying job & I've been told I will never be offered one because they believe I am overqualified..... ... This conversation has happened to me more than one time with several of my family/friends and I just dont get it.... why do they think I am not doing everything I can possible to find employment but its not in my control to a hiring manager/company that believes I am overqualified for the job...otherwords its an entry level position and I am a Senior level professional..... I'd be happy to take the entry level-- the hiring company wont take me because I am at Senior Level...... why don't my family/friends understand this?

Ms. Correll, It is a dilemma you are facing. You are a professional and know how to remain sound. It is easy to find fault, criticize, or condemn when one is not experiencing the same outcomes from endeavors. Maybe those people are under stress also. I understand that to say to someone be well and go does not bring any resolution to anybody's problem. I know by bearing along can be more encouraging at times even if other may comment from time to time. It is very hard trying to discuss problems with relatives especially if they are older because they do not know how the situation affects you. And as a professional it is hard for you just to lecture anybody. Bearing I learn was something to endure in the worse of times. Keep the faith and continue doing what you know is the right thing.

Searching for a Junior Graphic Design Position

Hello, my name is Jessica Jellison and I am searching for a Junior Graphic Design position, a graphic design internship, or freelance design work. For the freelance design work I could do that over the internet, but for the internship or entry level design job, it would have to be located in the Boston/Allston area.

Please email me if you have any leads or positions for me at jessica.jellison@newbury.edu

Thank you
