What is it called?
The unemployment benefits program in Washington is run by the Washington State Employment Security Department (ESD).

The fastest way to apply for benefits is online here.
By Phone
While you can file by phone, you should expect long wait times and the state is highly recommending you apply online if you can. Washington claims center number is 800-318-6022 and is available Monday – Friday from 8AM – 4PM Those with hearing or speaking impairments can call Washington Relay Service 711.
You must call on the day assigned below:
- Monday: New applications for those with Social Security numbers ending in 0-3. Open for questions about weekly claims and other general questions.
- Tuesday: New applications for those with Social Security numbers ending in 0-6. Open for questions about weekly claims and other general questions.
- **Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: **Everyone (Social Security numbers ending in 0-9) can submit new applications. Open for questions about weekly claims and other general questions.
Info you need to apply
To apply for unemployment, you need to provide personal information including:
- Your name
- Social Security number
- Birthdate
- Your highest level of education
- Contact information
- Your complete work history (including part-time work) for the past 18 months including employer name(s), address(es), and phone number(s)
-Start and end dates of employment
-Your citizenship status. If you're not an U.S. citizen, your work authorization information.
-Your bank account and routing number, if you want to sign up for direct deposit (optional)
