Applying for unemployment benefits can be complicated, so we put together these resources to help!
What is it called?
The South Dakota Department of Labor & Regulation runs the state’s Reemployment Assistance (RA) program (formerly Unemployment Insurance).
Online
Submit an initial claim here to determine if your circumstances meet the eligibility requirements of the RA program. Filing online is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Phone
You can also file for unemployment benefits or get help with your application by calling the TeleClaim Center. Contact them at (605)-626-3179 between 8AM - 4:20PM.
A new "last name" filing system has been implemented for claimants who want to file by telephone. Based on the first letter of their last name, claimants should file by phone on the day assigned to their last names:

If you missed your day, you can file Thursday or Friday. |
Info you need to apply
To apply for unemployment, you need to provide personal information including
- Social Security Number
- Driver’s license number or other state identification number
- Your employment history for the last 18 months, including business names, complete addresses and phone numbers of all employers
- The name and local number of your union hall, if you obtain work through the union
- Your Alien Registration Number if you are not a U.S. Citizen
- Your SF-8 and SF-50 forms if you are a federal employee
- Your DD214 if you served in the military
