Applying for unemployment benefits can be complicated, so we put together these resources to help you navigate.

What is it called?

The Mississippi Department of Employment Security (MDES) runs the state’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program.

The fastest way to file a claim is online here.

Once you have created a Claimant account you will be able to submit your initial unemployment claim and your weekly claim using the username and password you created.

You can also apply by email: Download and complete form by clicking here. Once complete, email your form to [email protected] or your local WIN Job center. A list of WIN Job centers can be found here.

Info you need to apply

To apply for unemployment, you need to provide information including

  • Social Security number
  • Name, address, and phone numbers for all your employers for the last 18 months
  • The dates you worked and the reasons you left each employer
  • Your complete mailing address and phone number
  • Banking information, including routing and account numbers (if you would like your benefit payments by direct deposit)

You may need additional information in certain situations

  • If you are not a U.S. citizen or national, alien registration number and expiration date
  • Form DD-214 (Member 4 copy), if you served in the military in the last 18 months
  • Form SF-50 or SF-8, if you are a federal civilian employee
  • Your bank routing number and checking/savings account number, if Direct Deposit is desired
