Applying for unemployment benefits can be complicated, so we put together these resources to help you navigate.
What is it called?
The Louisiana Workforce Commission (LWC) runs the state’s Unemployment Insurance (UI) program.

The fastest way to file a claim is online. Click here to get started.
By Phone
You can also file a claim by phone by calling between 8AM - 7PM daily: 866-783-5567.
Info you need to apply
- Your Social Security number
- The name, address, and telephone number of any place you have worked in the last 24 months (this information must be entered exactly as it appears on your check stub)
- Valid email address
You may need additional information in certain situations
- If not a U.S. citizen, your alien registration number, document number and expiration date
- Form DD-214 (Member 4 copy), if you served in the military in the last 18 months
- Form SF-50 or SF-8, if you are a federal civilian employee
- If you are a union member, the name and local number of your union hall
- To receive payments by direct deposit, you’ll also need your bank name, account number, and routing number. Otherwise, the LWC will send you a debit card.
