What is it called?

The State of Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR) runs the state's Unemployment Insurance (UI) program.

The recommended way to file a claim in Hawaii is online. The process takes about 30 minutes to complete.

File online during these times only:

  • Monday through Friday: 6:30AM - 11PM HST
  • Weekends and Holidays: 9AM - 11PM HST

How to file:

  • You must first create an online account here. You will need a valid email address in order to set up your account. Within a few minutes of creating your account, you will receive an email containing your temporary password. You can then create a permanent password and proceed with filing.

  • First time filers can file here.

Info you need to apply

You will need the following information handy when you apply for benefits:

  • Email address
  • Social security number
  • Contact information and dates of employment for all of your employers over the past 18 months
  • Bank Account type (savings or checking)
  • Financial institution routing number
  • Your bank account number (for direct deposit)
