Applying for unemployment benefits can be complicated, so we put together these resources to help you navigate.
What is it called?
The Alabama Department of Labor runs the state’s Unemployment Compensations (UC) program.
Online
The fastest way to file a claim is online. UC Online accounts are used to file claims, access the Claimant Inbox, report wages, view correspondence, and more here
If you do not have an open UC claim, you will need to first establish one.
After your UC claim has been established, you will need to file a Weekly Claim Certification each week.

You can also file a claim by phone Monday - Friday from 8AM- 4:30PM:

Info you need to apply
To apply for unemployment, you need to provide personal information including
- Your Social Security number
- Your work history for the last 18 months
- A telephone number
You may need additional information in certain situations
- If not a U.S. citizen, your alien registration number, document number and expiration date
- Form DD-214 (Member 4 copy), if you served in the military in the last 18 months
- Form SF-50 or SF-8, if you are a federal civilian employee
- Your Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) certification letter and/or TAA petition number, if you are filing for Trade Adjustment Assistance Benefits.
- The name and local number of your union hiring hall, IF you obtain your work through a union hiring hall.
- Your bank routing number and checking/savings account number, if Direct Deposit is desired
