Mistakes are inevitable! Everyone in every job makes mistakes sometimes, we're all human! I think it can be hard for most to be as consistently detail oriented as needed for a serving job. When you're busy and multitasking like crazy, things can slip through the cracks. I know a lot of servers who rarely write anything down, but I find its a simple way to make sure I have my orders as correct as they can be, and its a physical way to double check what I heard at the table. Often it's best to clear up a mistake as soon as you can, so that it doesn't disrupt the rest of the flow of your shift. It's hard when the mistakes haunt you later though, after work is over! 😬

It's simple but a solid piece of advice! If you take the time to double check, then you will save four times the amount from having to fix mistakes.

@Nur Yunlu Great post!! Double checking is important in any industry. In the restaurant industry we show diligence & respect by listening to our customers & in the customer service field it shows dedication because you are caring about your customers needs. Listening & double checking is such a small action but it can go so far in life! #advice

It's ok if you are new/ first day or week, to let customers know that.... just follow the same steps...

Example Me: hi my name is (name) I will be your server this morning/evening/tonight, Can I start you all with your drink orders? YOU BRING BACK THE DRINK ORDERS in order the way you took them and place on the table from back of table to front, so you are NOT reaching over drinks. Repeat the same steps for food orders. YOU BRING OUT THE FOOD (not other workers).

Stay visible at all times. Refil drinks as well as remove used dishes without the customer needing to ask. Periodically stop by each of your tables asking did they enjoy their meal, and or engage briefly of the visit. Offer desserts and don't rush to give receipts. Smile when talking.
