Restaurant Kitchens are notoriously πŸ”₯ HOT!! πŸ”₯

Hence the phrase, β€œIF YOU CANT TAKE THE HEAT… GET OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!” 🍳 β˜„οΈ πŸ₯΅

There are a lot of things that making working in a restaurant difficult! However, πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈ running a 10K or more everyday, while carrying a precarious tray of drinks 🍸 - plus ducking in and out of a 95 degree kitchen ❀️‍πŸ”₯ - can be some of the hardest. πŸ˜… πŸ€΅πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

Those who are stuck near the flames for their whole shift seem superhuman surviving it! The Back of the House staff who stay in front of πŸ₯“ Flat Tops, 🍟 Fryers, πŸ₯© Grills, and πŸ₯˜ Ovens alllllll day and night long, are TRUE HEROES!! ❀️‍πŸ”₯🧯πŸ”₯

EVERYONES JOB IN THE RESTAURANT HAS IT’S OWN CHALLENGES πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ πŸ€΅πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

No doubt working in the heat in the back, and a crowded dining room in the front, are some of the toughest parts though.

How do you handle a flaming hot kitchen?!? πŸ”₯ What is the best way to keep your cool 🧊 while running around, or cooking in, a busy restaurant? πŸ₯΅

Does anyone have any TIPS or TRICKS for dealing with the elements of a STEAMY RESTAURANT OR CHALLENGING WORKING CONDITIONS?? β˜€οΈ πŸ’¨ πŸ’¦

DOES ANYONE ELSES JOB FEEL LIKE A SUMMER HEAT WAVE EVERY DAY?? β˜€οΈ πŸ’₯ πŸ”₯

Chef/Owner at 51 To Go

Staying hydrated and just keeping a positive attitude really helps. I trained my folks to nod and smile at both staff and customers. If they are in a foul mood, take 5 minutes and go outside and scream. Never let anyone get under your skin. Our job is created to bring joy to some empty bellies! While some customers take out their frustration on us, return it with great service, a thank you for coming to see us and a huge sincere smile.

Also, always stay hydrated in the kitchen and FOH. Punch the order in, drink some cold water. Drop off the order, drink some cold water. Tale the pay...well, you get it.

I hope this helps.

Use common sense and fairness. Being a leader is not a popularity contest. Do what is right not what is popular. It's not important to be liked. It's important to be respected.

The BEST book on job hunting and work place survival is a piece titled The Hatchet Man's Playbook. It contains a LOT of eye-popping, non-obvious advice. I can't recommend it highly enough!
