URGENT REQUEST for Resume overhaul ?
I am in dire need of help reconstructing my entire resume can someone help me

How do I write my first resume?
I have so many questions,

Writing your first resume can seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. Some key things to keep in mind include tailoring your resume to the specific job you're applying for, highlighting your relevant skills and experience, and keeping it concise and visually appealing.
There are many resources available to help you write your resume, including Jobcase's Resume Builder, which offers customizable templates and suggests key phrases to use based on your industry and experience.
Other job search providers, such as LinkedIn and Indeed, also offer helpful tips and templates for resume writing. Additionally, consider reaching out to a career coach or mentor for guidance and feedback on your resume. Good luck!

A question about names
I want to ask other professional resume writers a question.
What do you guys do when you have a client with a name that is either very ethnic, unusual, difficult to pronounce, or impossible to determine the person's gender?
I have very mixed emotions about this and want to get some feedback.
I know there have been surveys and studies done where they've sent employers the same identical resume, but one has a rather common name, like Susan Smith (don't jump on me, it's just an example) opposed to a name that is either 1.) difficult to pronounce, 2.) extremely ethnic sounding, 3.) or you cannot determine the individual's gender by their name and the one with the common name gets interviews but the other one doesn't.
It's a sensitive subject and I totally understand if a person is proud of his or her name and doesn't want to 'modify' it. I've personally had more than my share of grief simply with the name "Genise!" It's very easy, "Denise," but with a "G," yet people desecrate it! Therefore, I am very sensitive to people's names and ask if I don't think I can pronounce them.
So, I've had countless clients who fit into one or more of the above categories and since I know darn well people will discriminate against others with "weird" names, and not really sure if it's appropriate to bring up the subject with the client. I'd truly hate it if someone with super credentials, etc. won't get called for an interview because the person can't pronounce the name or already has some preconceived, wrong impression due to their ethnicity.
There have been a couple of times where I've asked the client if he or she goes by a nick-name only because they had a name that was extremely lengthy, almost impossible to pronounce by looking at it, and it rang of a particular ethnicity....so they had all the above strikes.
Anyway, I am curious as to what others think about this. In fact, I'd like to hear from people with those kinds of names and get their feelings too, and not just from other resume writers!
Thanks all. #advice #stressful #resume #interview #jobsearch

Question to resume writers
Hi everyone. I hope you are all well and staying safe. It's been a very strange and uncertain time for everyone and I can only hope and pray everyone comes out of this alive, well, and better people in spite of everything! (We have to keep positive!)
Now, on a completely different note....this is a question I'd like to pose to all the other professional resume writers out there.
This is a situation I find myself in more often than not but this time I'm a bit stumped. In order to get the most current and relevant information for the new resume, I send my clients worksheets to complete and follow up with a phone call in order to go over anything I'm not clear about, address any other issues and basically get a little better acquainted with each individual, bla bla bla..
Inevitably, regardless of how many times I stress the importance of the resume being concise, I will get people who write a novel for each position. Obviously, I cannot include everything, so it puts me in a situation where I am forced to decide 'for' the client what information is important enough to include and what should be omitted. I don't feel this is fair, as how can I determine what is important for another person? Does this make sense?
So, now I have a client who wrote literally three full pages for every position!
We talked and I told her there is no way I can use everything and asked her if she could go back and highlight the really important information. She did, yet it's still way tooooo much!
She is a lovely, wonderful person, so I don't want to piss her off, yet I'm in a situation where I have umpteen details about an industry and position I know virtually nothing about!
That's the key. So, my question is what do you resume writers do when a client bombards you with a ton of information and it just happens to be for an industry you're not at all familiar with?? How do you intelligently determine what to use and what to omit?
In most other cases I've had enough prior knowledge of the industry, etc. to at least make some educated guess - this one not so! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks much.

Bias in Resumes
I had a very interesting day. I "attended" a Webinar about bias in resumes. It was extremely informative and rather shocking! Some of it was downright horrifying!
I know employers do discriminate based on age, in many cases, but a lot of the other information was a real eye-opener. Something like your name alone can get you eliminated.
Academic research has shown recruiters read resumes in a systematic pattern, taking 6.25 seconds to make a yes/no decision; yet, 75% of the time, resumes don't make it through an ATS to the recruiter's desk at all! Add implicit recruiter bias to the vetting process, and it’s shocking any resume advances to candidate status. The session reviewed implicit name, gender, age and motherhood bias and how bias manifests in resume review. We also learned ways minorities are beating bias by "whitening" their resumes, and what WE can do to diminish implicit bias in resume review.
They will be sending me an email with links to where they got some of the research information and as soon as I get it I will share it here.
It's truly worthwhile taking a look.

Issues and problems on completing work experience for Walmart
Good afternoon, my name is Kiersten. I am a former employee for Walmart. I have almost fifteen years of work experience with Walmart. I have slowly been working on filling out the resume form for Jobcase. I joined Jobcase back in August of this year. I believe I started working on and filling out the resume form for Jobcase back in the last month, which was September. I have run into a issue/problem with completing my work experience for when I worked for Walmart. I have the majority of my work experience for Walmart written and filled out, the problem that I have ran into is, getting the remaining information of work experience from the time frame of being a retail sales associate, and once I can finish writing and completing my retail sales associate experience, then I need to write about my work experience as a maintenance associate for Walmart. Is there any way or any one that could help me or explain to me how I can finish getting that information and work experience written onto my resume? I am also currently working on completing the rest of my work history/experience, the education section, the certification section, the skills section, and lastly the volunteering section. I have shared my resume with Jobcase on Facebook, and I even commented on it not being completed. I would love very much to post my resume on Jobcase, however I do not want to post it to Jobcase uncompleted, because I don't know if I would be able to go back to it to finish it, much less of having the ability to go into it to update my resume. I could truly use some advice and help in able to make it complete and understandable to people that would be interested in allowing me a chance for some part time employment opportunities. Thank you for any advice, help, support, and lastly suggestions on how I can resolve this problem/issue.

Payment methods
Hello everyone. I assume some members of this group are freelance or self-employed resume writers. With that being said, I am curious what method(s) you use to get payments from clients. I've been using PayPal exclusively; however, they recently created a MAJOR problem for me and all I'll say is I will not use them anymore. I know there are a variety of other apps to send/receive payments, but so far the ones I've looked at don't have any kind of buyer/seller protection. I'm worried my clients are going to have a problem with any method if there is no way for them to receive a refund if I were just to take their money and do nothing. Of course, I'd never do such a thing but when dealing with clients remotely, who only have my word to go on, I can foresee some problems. So, I am wondering how other people accept (Or if you've hired a professional resume writer, how did you pay?), payments. Please keep in mind, I am a sole proprietor, not a firm. Thanks so much for your help.
Absolutely! I recommend utilizing resources such as Jobcase, as well as other job search providers, for resume guidance and templates. It's essential to highlight your skills and experiences effectively. Feel free to reach out for further assistance!
