Denied unemployment during Coronavirus: What you can do next

So your unemployment application was denied...
The process of applying for unemployment benefits can be hard to navigate normally, but in today's world, with limited jobseeking options, active quarantine orders, and health risks around every corner, being denied can leave you feeling devastated and alone. But you don't have to be. Here at Jobcase, we have gathered some information to figure out why you were denied, check out some resources and take steps to file an appeal if you think you should still qualify under new Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) guidelines.
Why was I denied?
Typically, you may be denied unemployment benefits if you:
- Leave work voluntarily without a valid reason.
It's important to note here that some states have loosened their definition of when you can still collect unemployment benefits, even if you quit your job, to provide for special cases related to coronavirus. Even so, some systems haven't fully aligned with these changes and may still deny you. If you think your case may qualify, check your state's local guidelines on unemployment benefits.
- Are terminated due to misconduct at work.
Most states consider misconduct to be either an intentional act that hurts the employer, or a deliberate failure to perform duties that are in the employer’s interest. This should not extend to being laid-off or furloughed.
- Are unable to work or don’t make yourself available to work. You need to be ready and willing to take on a suitable job. If a disability prevents you from working long-term, look into collecting disability benefits. Again, some states have relaxed these qualifications due to the current pandemic, so check local resources to ensure that you aren't missing out!
- Refuse a job offer that is considered suitable work. If you're unemployed and are offered work, you may be disqualified from receiving benefits if you decline to accept that offer.
- Make false claims in order to get unemployment benefits. When discrepancies are found in your claim, this can count against your chances to be approved for unemployment. This can happen when you claim something in your application, but your employer says something different. If you think this was done in error, you may want to consider appealing!
- Do not meet Base Period requirements This is highly dependant on your state's specific requirements, but some states will require that you make a certain amount of money within a certain set period of time to qualify for unemployment benefits. Click here for a more detailed breakdown of how Base Period requirements work.
It’s important to know that your state determines eligibility for unemployment benefits. Be sure to visit the state unemployment resource center for any specific state requirements or concerns.
What happens now?
If you've been denied unemployment benefits, you have a couple of options.
- Try to find employment.
- Appeal your case.
If it feels like you don't have a lot of options here, you are so right! But we have some resources that may help to make this daunting decision seem a bit more manageable.
If you want to find work
If you just want to start working and earning again, there are options that you can look into. These may not be options you're familiar with, but if you're willing to learn and try something new, even just for the time being, so you can earn money again. Look into some of these options hiring now, nationwide.
If you want to appeal your case
- Get to know the appeals process in your state If your unemployment claim was denied and you believe you should be eligible under the PUA (Pandemic Unemployment Assistance) program or your own state’s expanded eligibility rules, your next step will depend on where you live and how your state implements the PUA program.
- Keep a good record of your work history If your application is rejected, you are able to appeal that decision. Keep in mind, employers are also able to file a second appeal if they do not agree with the state’s decision. Having a solid record of your work history, and even personal witnesses, lined up can help you file a successful appeal.
- Time to file an appeal is limited- file fast! If you wish to file an appeal when you are denied, you must do so within your state’s established time frame. Check with your state to learn about their specific policy.

In my inbox it says “no benefits are available for your claim at this time”...why would I not get approved if I met the eligibility requirements? I left my job due to exposure to covid-19. Connect.
I quit my job, due to school closures due to covid 19. I have to home school 3 kids...Correspondence on the web says that there is was issue with my case, and its cause I quit...I recieved a letter telling me that I was to be recieving a weekly check. Nothing. This is the second week that it says issue due to quit my job. Just trying to figure out it I will continue to have this problem. Is there anything I need to do? Connect.

I was approved for benefits, but it was a year before I started receiving them. I called it in an requested my checks like I was supposed to,and Am yet to receive back payments for unpaid wages. The local office won't awnser phone calls nor return emails, how do I get my back pay paid to me?

I was terminated after giving a UA and it was shipped off to another state and two days later they tried to call me I was working with the director of the company and I was on the forklift we were trying to load nine semi trailers just me and him we were rushing and I couldn't understand the woman that called me she sended Oriental and my director told me to get off the phone we were in a rush so I told her I can't talk call me back later after 5:00 when I'm off work she never called me back the next day she sent the results said my creatine level was two points below Dot standards and I must have altered the UA or substituted it because it wasn't human I didn't do no such thing and they terminated me the next day didn't even retest me or anything but at the time I was fasting for a week because I was about to go through a few medical procedures and one of them was a colonoscopy so I was only on my medication for my doctor and fasting that week but I have had a situation before in the past with my creatine levels dropping and it almost cost me my freedom back then so that was my reason for being terminated failing a UA and my reason for being denied by unemployment. I haven't done drugs in over 12 years or any other substances been sober all this time trying to create a better life for myself and this happened to send me back and my family in some miserable situations for the next few years and I don't even think my past employer even realizes the situation they created for me and my family.

Yeah I filled for unemployment benefits back last June but they said that I didn't start filing until July but anyways they told me to keep calling in and filing every week for about 3 or 4 months until they finally told me that I couldn't receive benefits due to me not making enough money the last quarter or whatever. First of all that should tell you more than anything that I needed help and I also believe that I had one of the temporary services that I worked for lie and say that I didn't accept a job when they were the one's who were supposed to be calling me back about the position and never did. Plus to just rub it in my face they gave thousands of dollars to people that I know who hadn't worked in years and don't plan to. Just terrible experience with them and I believe that some of them should be investigated for approving false applications.

This corona virus season I never know this disease in my 22 years work experience as a hospital nurse: But I know I am the best analyst of the source that for the longest time Asians and Chinese were blamed for it’s source. In college we do epidemiology studies collected data and analyze the source, reason and treatment for a disease entity and how we can prevent them and these are my theories base on the forensic reports of some bodies that arrived from Libya and Jungles of Africa underground as to the source of Corona virus: 1.) if you recall the plagues of Egypt per biblical recordings - part of it is a corona virus cause — the years of famine ( hungry years, recession) the fertile moist ground became dry and plant died including grass, ground cracks. The cows, ducks, all creatures died. There is what they called Black Death or bubonic plague. Why the ground is tainted with explosives with the powdered form of melted liquified internal organs from— figure it out. — locust that were from the tainted ground climbed to the plants and melted the plants and made the plants withered and died. So harvest from tainted farmland plant products from fruits and vegetables. All those who ate of these tainted farmland products died — water that turned to blood. These are melted human remains mixed with powdered gun powder, grenade blaster and dynamite medium. If they did that to the man called Tutankhamon ( meaning thank him for the ham on the bread) — mosquitoes that bite 0.1 MM diameter bite melts the skin up to 1 cm in a short period of time as the stick of the mosquito got it tainted from the tainted water where they breed and lay eggs. All other vectors the bottom part of their bodies are also tainted. Taint also came from tainted ground and poisons from the deadly giant black widow spiders of Africa where some of the kidnapped victims bodies were retrieved that were tunneled from Libya. — dandruffs were from yellow ribbon. The ribbons are mixtures of several human melted tissues plus dentostain in some mixture or anesthetic agent with schlerosing agent like 2 percent lidocaine or Mepivacaine. When mix with alcohol base substances it enhances melting capability or explosive capabilities. They are then in liquid form as liquid bomb injected in ear drum to the brain, the tongue, the neck, the mid nipple of the breast to the lungs, and it can potentially explode maybe inside the helicopter of military retrievers. Some of these items are hidden in a smaller form of bullets called bulletas that serves as melters that gradually heats up and it can taze and electricutes, it can melt and it can explode. If it is inserted in the penis it can decapitate the penis, if it is implanted under the scalp it can explode the head like that of Governor John Fitzgerald Kennedy and it exploded after he became a President. Jaqueline Bovier got implanted with the same bulletas under the axilla and on the shoulder joint closed with dermabond. That is why for several years in the making of these items used by International kidnapping ring, it spreads out the diagnosis of corona virus. So even if vaccines are given - it can eradicate it at this time up to 65 percent but the hidden causes of death are still there as rape drugs that was used to sedate my patients that were made to inhale them. The bullets the tazer effects are adjusted to voltage at interval from 7,000 to 10,000 volts per one silver bullets. So until these items are gone corona virus and jobs are affected

i worked at my job for 11 years and i got denied twice and at the appeal my employer was not even on the conference call and got denied again and havet had anything since september except undee the table jobs and i want a carreer

I received unemployment in Texas until I found a job in August. The temp agency told unemployment it was temporary therefore not my fault. I was told to keep filing. I was told they could not give me the payments from Dec. 6th because I did not have transportation. I am disabled and no longer drive due to Neuropathy & nerve damage due to ruptured discs and because of a severe auto-immune disease leaving me inoperable. I was shut out and I would have to call to be able to reapply but waited and tried to reapply in January after renewing an expired ID and I was still shut out and had to call. They did not return my call until May 26th yet TWC re-opened my case to file again stating my application to file expired March 13, 2021. A notice I just received today. I am being punished for getting a job while others say get off unemployment and now they're literally railroading me out of any additional stimulus that I was told I was eligible for because I can't drive. I had no rent mandate where I live so I am being put in a position to still lose my resident after family helping me that I owe. This should be considered discrimination. I was shut out and since when does not having transportation mean you're ineligible for unemployment and my last 3 jobs were remote?

The only way to get the unemployment you worked for is to lie and cheat any way you can that's how everyone I know that has never worked a day in there life did and they are getting $1600 a month with no problems good work EDD office they are f-ing stupid as hell

I was receiving my PUA, until my former employer, a staffing service, reported I turned down a job. This "job" was working as a bag checker at the local college football games. it was part-time, random hours, not consistence, and temporary. I turned the offer down it would not have done anything to further my goals of getting a permanent full time job. When I worked there previously I work at an insurance company 40 hours a week. I am 63 yo and won't be working much longer. Am I required to take any old job they decide to throw at me?

I was fired for not keeping up with the changing quotas. The HR rep who fired me told me I would be eligible for unemployment to stick with it because he let know my employer always contests unemployment no matter what. Sure enough my former employer denied me telling unemployment that I was fired for misconduct. I appealed immediately and uploaded my discharge papers and now is been 18 weeks and my account still says in progress. I call and I am told to just wait but 18 weeks is a long time to wait for something I am eligible for. What can I do? This is in the state of Michigan
I was fired from Hoosier Park for two felonies that were dismissed 23 years ago.they were dismissed the day I walked out of court. I paid for the expungements and the judge says denied to the #2 mistaminers for no reason at all. I'm stuck stuck and I don't want to beg for my life nor do I owe anyone anything 😭🙏🙏🙏🙏 how do I get unemployment? "year" May 2022 I was fired.
